Who here likes the Beatles?

Very general question, I know. Seriously though -- it's a simple subject, but I want to know what are all your thoughts on the Beatles and what are your favorite songs and albums?

I personally can't pick a favorite song, but I can list out a number of my favorites: Paperback Writer, Rain, Eleanor Rigby, Strawberry Fields Forever, Penny Lane, All You Need is Love, Hey Jude, Revolution, She Said She Said, I'm Looking Through You, In My Life, Norwegian Wood, I'm Only Sleeping, Across the Universe, Get Back, Something, Come Together, Let it Be, I am the Walrus, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Savoy Truffle, Happiness is a Warm Gun, Sexy Sadie, Dear Prudence, Here Comes the Sun, I'm So Tired, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, Lovely Rita, A Day in the Life, Yesterday...and I'm sure there are others that escape me at the moment.

1. Greatest songwriters of the 20th century if you ask me.

Paul and John were wonderful together. Their songs will be played, hummed, and sung just as lovingly 100 years from now.

Wore out my Parent's "Greatist Hits," you know, the red double album with all the "oldies."

First album I bought with my "own" money was Sgt. Pepper. must have been 9 or 10.

Could never name one song as best but my fave records are:

4. On the MP3 player I use with my helmet on the bike -

is a Beatles playlist.

It's 13 hours long.

Another one is "All John, All the Time".

6. Greatest rock band that was, or ever will be...

My favorite album is 'The White Album'. 'Abbey Road' is a close second, though I love all their albums. My fav song: Hey Jude. It lifts my spirits like few songs do, and I never tire of the 'na na na's'. They were simply unbelievable. I wish I had been born about 10 years earlier than I was, all because of The Beatles.

Has to be one of the most listenable and enjoyable "eclectic" albums out there. Genius!

Oh Bla Di , Happiness..., Julia, Bungelow Bill, Rocky Raccoon, Revolution 1 & 9, While my Guitar...

All on the same record - crazy! But it works and makes sense somehow.

7. what's not to love? . . .

last year, my niece (age 18 at the time, and a pretty talented musician) asked me "What's so great about the Beatles?" . . . so I got out the Abbey Road CD, hooked her up to my Koss cans, told her to lie back and relax, and cranked the volume . . . she now has pretty much every Beatles CD still in print, and she's turned a number of her friends on to them as well . . . nice to pass good stuff on the the younger generation every now and then . . . :)

10. Yes, they were the GREATEST!

No doubt in my mind, the Beatles were the BEST band EVER! I don't even listen to popular music any more, except once in a while to oldies stations. I prefer classical music. Have y'all ever heard the saying "The Three B's"? It refers to Bach, Beethoven and Brahms. Well, for me it's "The Four B's." Bach, Beethoven, Brahms and the Beatles. My favorite Beatles song is "I Am The Walrus." My favorite Beatles album is the Sgt. Pepper's album, followed closely by the White Album.

Oh, and in case y'all are wondering, I'm 53 years old, I grew up in the South in the 50s and 60s, almost got to see the Beatles in Atlanta once about 1963 or 1964, they were in Atlanta the weekend before I was in Columbus, Ga. I did get to see the Dave Clark Five about 1964 or '65, and the Rolling Stones once in about 1966 in Legion Field in Birmingham, Ala.

20. Go You Want To know A Secret?

The best kept non-secret among every generation of young people coming along is that the Beatles are still alive, still great.
("Got To Get You Into My Life") So much so that, to be a certain kind of rebellious person & punk & gangsta you have to have a routine going about how terrible they are, refuse to listen & so on. ("Don't Bother Me")
But secretly, secretly... there are a couple of their songs you like. ("Baby You're A Rich Man") Later there will be more. ("Tomorrow Never Knows") Always you will find more there, forever, pure magic. ("Eight Days A Week") Even the corny, sorta crude early stuff ("Til There Was You") eventually fits in... as a certain segment of the Beatles puzzle, a certain stopping off point in the labyrinth. ("Within You, Without You") And their incredible, cosmic sense of humor lets it all make serious sense. ("Hello, Goodbye")

While I am a big fan of their later work (after they stopped being just a pop act, lets say starting at Revolver), I do not like to call them the greatest band of all time.

Its true that they were very talented and together recorded some lasting, inspirational material.

But be sure not to let the Beatles marketing blind you. There were other groups that were just as strong.

My favorite albums by them have to be Let It Be and Abbey Road. The last two.

What rock band has an equal body of work? As far as songs that last time? The Stones, Creedence, the Kinks, Who, might approach their barometer...but the Beatles are timeless...Just because melody is dead nowadays doesn't mean they're lame...

If this was a thread about the Guess Who I might agree...But the Beatles deserve their "worship"...They were the greatest band ever.

The songs are what matter, and they wrote hundreds of good songs...they withstand 40 years and still sound better than ever. The Beatles are a world treasure, like Cole Porter, Hoagy Carmichael, George Gershwin....absolutely Timeless...

And that's the last you'll hear from me on the subject. They were not just a rock and roll band, leave that for their followers.

27. In addition to their musical genius,

the Beatles influence on the 60's was enormous. John, Paul, George, and Ringo were instant icons. Kids wanted to look like them, dress like them, and play music like them. England became hugely popular with American teenagers - ironic because the Beatles themselves were fans of American artists like Chuck Berry and Elvis.

I was in 6th grade when the Beatles appeared on Ed Sullivan. By the time I graduated from high school in '70 they had "Let It Be." In between they entertained, amused, shocked, and provided the background music for a very turbulent, tumultuous time. I feel lucky to have experienced it firsthand.

35. Count Me In As A Beatles Fanatic

My guitar player and i probably know 95% of the catalog. I'd guess we could just sit down a play Beatles tunes for 5 or 6 hours. There might be a few we don't know, but it's got to be just a few. Geez, our 3 piece line up does 8 Beatles tunes. (Some off the beaten path ones too, off Rubber Soul and Revolver.)

When i was in Britain earlier this year, i had a day to kill. I got a "Beatles Map" and drove to Liverpool. I went to locations of famous Beatles sites that aren't even there anymore. I stood at the corner of the Cavern club. (The original) I drove by the location of the Melody Mart which is where they bought their first good instruments before they went to Hamburg the first time. It's not there anymore, either. Weird stuff like that.

So, yeah. I'm a Beatles Freak.

As far as I'm concerned, all other bands are in another arena. Too me, it's like The Beatles and then everyone else. I actually have a picture of Paul with a good friend of mine at a PETA event here in L.A. a few years ago. The were imho the most talented musicians in the history of time. I know that sounds dramatic but it's how I feel. I couldn't begin to say which song or album is my favorite.
