Bush, the new Julius Caesar?
With the rumors of seizures that Bush is having going around, this really establishes a link between the two.

It has been said that those who do not remember the past are doomed to repeat it. And Bush? He has a problem remembering things. Both Bush and Caesar were ambitious men who liked and used war. Caesar illegally came to power via dictatorship and conquest and so did Bush through complaining to Scalia and Thomas. Both had a thing for war and power. But if Bush continues going down the Caesar road, bad things could happen for us. I'm not saying Bush will be hurt, if I did the Conservatives who lurk on this site would be on me like white on rice. However it is possible to think all of Bush's friends such as Cheney, Ashcroft, Powell, and even the religious right leaders such as Robertson and Falwell will try to take power for themselves. They will push Bush out of power and start a civil war and like Shakespeare's play "Julius Caesar", it will be a tragedy for our nation.

I'm not saying this will happen, but if it does, we'll know for sure that Bush is the new Julius Caesar.

2. I've wondered that before. Powell?
Would Powell stop him if he went that far?

4. Bush More Like Mussolini, Not Caesar
Caesar actually fought, he didn't join the National Guard, he was also a commanding officer. Caesar was tempered in battle, he crossed the Rubicon to keep Rome from descending into chaos. The title of dictator in Caesar's time, does not mean what it means in the 21st century.

And because of the fear of the Roman senators who assassinated Caesar,
Rome went from a Republic to an Empire. Those senators were more responsible for Rome becoming an Empire then Caesar.

If you want to compare Shrub to someone, it should be Mussolini. Now there was a man who became the head of state by mistake.

6. I was trying to compare the two because of recent developments
Although now when I think about it Bush and the fascist Mussolini have a lot more in common than he does with Caesar. Caesar was cunning while Bush gets beat up by some pretzels. So there is a lot of difference between the two.

5. I've thought of that comparison
We are at a time when our Republic seems more fragile than it's been since 1860, and like Rome, an empire seems possible.

But the military in Rome was behind Caesar, due to an ineffective civilian leadership. Our military is turning on Bush, and he on them. I wonder if they would follow him if the Supreme Court gave Bush the power to call off the elections, for instance. I think our coup will come from inside, not from the military.

And of course, Caesar was part of the military, and a highly respected soldier. Bush is not so respected, and his attempts to make himself part of the military now seem to be backfiring. When Caesar made his move, he was the competent one, the civilian government was the weak one. Bush, now, is the weak link.

Some superficial comparisons: Caesar was an educated man, an impressive intellect. He could read silently when few others of his time could. Bush can't even read.

Plus, he's a coward. Caesar was not.

There are all those rumors of Bush's male lovers, though, which echoes Caesar.
