I just got called a jackass
I'm going to Blockbuster and this construction guy in a big truck was upset as I was walking by. I delayed his departure from the parking space by 3 seconds, so he calls me a jackass.

I was so temped to just ask him why, but I knew it would end up on a fight. Then I thought of him being in a hospital, me in jail and decided it was not worth it. Isn't it strange how people just say things, without knowing who they say it to? What if I had a short temper?

the law was suspended for 5 minutes or so. I woudl've made feel like a loser that is just by bitch-slapping and making him miss. Within 20 seconds he would've been breathing like a dog in 130 degree weather.

24. I did that once to a chauffeur who was driving like a nutcase, and he went
absolutely APE-SHIT!

This dude passed me on the right (and I was in the right-hand lane!!!), and I tapped my horn as I hit my brakes to keep from rear-ending him. He kept muttering and eyeballing me, so I blew him a good old-fashioned, exaggerated Dating Game-style kiss.

The guy went bonkers -- he leaped out of his car, came over to mine (this was at a red light) and wanted me to get out and presumably engage in fisticuffs with him. So I just blew him another kiss -- he was hopping mad, turning crimson and ready to have a stroke in the middle of the street. Other drivers were now honking at him as he reluctantly got back in his car.

I didn't get his license, but I did jot down his TPC chauffeur call-number on the rear bumper -- the local PD informed me that Airport Security keeps a record of those call number, and I got the name of his company. So I called the boss, described the date, incident and time of day, and hopefully got that maniac fired.

18. Forget it.
He was probably one of those pathetic guys who lives in a fantasy world, imagining that he can put a serious whipping on just about anyone. Matter of fact, he is probably at his home now, telling his wife and kids and anyone else that has to listen to him what a ferocious assault he almost laid on you. They are no doubt tired of hearing his silly ranting. The really tough guys never talk like that. Better to just forget him. No big deal.

22. What if you had a gun?
I figure 50% of the people I encounter are armed, and 50% are crazy; and sometimes the two groups overlap. So I just wave my hand in a dismissive way and keep walking.

31. I just needed to be crazy
:)
For about 99% of people I might be just as good as a loaded gun. Once it's decided and he becomes an "enemy combatant" chances are that he'd be wishing I had a gun. I become a completely different person, and if I go into survival mode he will be become just a punching and kicking bag. I think it's natural...

23. When something like that happens to me...
I have a hard time keeping myself from grinning ear to ear. I usually manage a subtle kind of smile and move on.

The reason being, it makes me so happy to realize that I only have to put up with the guy for 20 seconds. He has to live with himself 24 hours a day. Poor guy. How can you not feel sorry for him, and feel happy for yourself for not being him?

My world is so much better than his and it makes me soooo happy when someone reminds me how fortunate I am not to be like that.

25. Reminds me of the W.C. Fields line, when accused of being drunk...
by some holier-than-thou nutcase.

Fields' reply: "Yes, I'm drunk, and you're crazy. And tomorrow morning, I'll be sober, but you'll be crazy for the rest of your life!"

:toast:

26. Issues of karma notwithstanding, I marvel at how it seems
to have become socially acceptable to make these sorts of hostile, agressive comments to complete strangers.

In such a comparatively luxurient society, - with vastly more time and quality of life available than any 3rd world country enjoys and more than most more advanced nations as well, - why do we collectively not feel we've the time to let someone ahead of us in line without rudeness? Why can't we let a car go past us with a minor infraction and not brush it off? Why do we allow ourselves to be driven into fits of rage over 18 items in the 10-Item check out line?

I honestly find this subject boggling.

33. I'm an odds man
Edited on Thu May-20-04 08:48 PM by private_ryan
an asteroid could strike us in 30 minutes but it's not likely to happen. I train almost daily...and it's not weightlifting or ballet. I know what I can do, and I also have a general idea what's needed to counter it.
Most importantly, regardless of skill, I wasn't the one calling people names for no reason. I was just trying to rent a movie, not beating my chest asking guys to fight me. There's a difference.

34. I agree
I hate people who have the instant aggression thing - and I've always wondered about people who try to pick fights because as you've noted -who knows what sort of person one's picking - but no matter sort of training you do - point blank lead poisoning to the brain is hard to counter. I'm just saying - for all HE knew you could be an aggro type, but for all YOU knew he could have been a bonafide psycho

35. true, he could've shot or even beat me for alI I know
but what can you do? Life sucks, and almost nothing can stop a psycho from killing you. At least I wasn't picking the fight.
As far as training goes, rule #1 is that no matter how good you are or think that you are ;), there's ALWAYS somebody better than you. That never fails.

That's why I mind my own business, and I have never got into any (street) fights in my adult life. You can't win. If you he beats you, you obviously lost. If you beat him and go in jail or get sued, you still lost.
