Childless couple told to try sex
A German couple who went to a fertility clinic after eight years of marriage have found out why they are still childless - they weren't having sex.

<snip>

Doctors subjected them to a series of examinations and found they were both apparently fertile, and should have had no trouble conceiving.

A clinic spokesman said: "When we asked them how often they had had sex, they looked blank, and said: "What do you mean?".

"We are not talking retarded people here, but a couple who were brought up in a religious environment who were simply unaware, after eight years of marriage, of the physical requirements necessary to procreate."

5. Can you imagine this couple after they finally get to it?
They are either going to be overjoyed at finally getting at it or pissed off at somebody for not telling them about it.

I hope they take a few weeks off (at least)from work to practice.

3. That story was posted the other day...
And I think the general concensus was that it is probably a hoax.

My biggest clue: how did the man "pass" his "fertility test" if he had no idea what sex was?

Doesn't add up.

10. I have heard and/or read that . . .
there are groups of (primitive-style) people on Earth to this day where the whole culture doesn't understand the conncetion between intercourse and procreation.

I have always been a tad skeptical about these stories? Are they true? Any anthropology majors out there?

11. But, doesn't it work the other way around for them?
"the whole culture doesn't understand the conncetion between intercourse and procreation."

Don't they wonder why they keep having babies.

12. I dunno . . .
maybe they think babies are a function of spending time with a mate, or feeling love for a mate, or sharing meals with a mate, or sleeping with a mate.

It would be especially easy to sustain these understandable kinds of mistakes if rapes of unmarried women are rare and/or under-reported.

anyway, I can't get too far into this because I don't really know what the facts are.

13. I do believe that some people can become
so twisted by their upbringing that they would avoid sex as "dirty," but I find it hard to believe that they wouldn't know what sex was. By the teen years, sex is on the mind constantly. It's impossible to believe that a couple could grow into adulthood, marry, and not understand that sex was required for children. After all, don't religious people read their Bibles? It's right in there (although without real instructions). The story is hard to believe.

16. They were following the Bible's instructions
The husband, 36, and his 32-year-old wife thought that all they had to do to make a baby was to lie next to each other and let nature take its course.
