Oh good grief, this is my one thousandth post on DU. I don't believe I've ever written so much without getting paid. What kind of idiot does that? Oh yeah, some flag burning librul Catholic tree-hugger faggot feminazi nerd computer geek Quaker girly man flaming asshole with a personality disorder.
I've been watching DU since it was born, but mostly I hung out in other places, such as slashdot, and forums some of you may (horrors!) recognize me from...
I got my first "internet" account in 1979, and I have been apologizing to people ever since. I once told Marc Perkel, who later became host of bartcop and the eff computer maven, to "bite me." I imagine that's nothing he hasn't heard or said before, in both positive and negative contexts some of them involving women who worked in the "escort" business... but I blather, I digress, you do not want to know about the women and drinking and partying in the computer business of the early 'eighties. No really, you don't... Obi-Wan commands it.
I first registered at DU to participate in the 911 tinfoil hat threads. There was a lot of good stuff in those, stuff that still hasn't been properly explained. But I think my first post at DU was in one of those long-winded evolution-creation threads. It was an invisible unremarkable post, just to see what happened. I always find threads that mix science and religion fascinating since I am an amateur evolutionary biologist and left-wing Catholic pacifist.
Then came BBV. I'd been aware of this issue in a peripheral sort of way, and I was aquainted with some of the people pursuing it, when I saw Bev Harris posting here. It was like a smack in the head, and I woke up. Probably a third of my posts on DU have been related to BBV.
In the "real world" I am a quiet person with a wife and kids and a house in the suburbs. I like it that way. I'm mostly a "homemaker" but I do some computer work from my home office, which means I can waste a lot of time here at DU hanging out while I'm wating for other things to happen.
In college and high school I was almost a pure computer and electronics nerd without any social skills. Various people "adopted" me along the way, and at some point I learned to write something other than computer code. My mom loves to write, and I had friends who encouraged me to write, and a woman I knew in college put me in touch with novelest Garth St. Omer who convinced me I was actually a human being and not some alien creature my parents had found in the cabbage patch. And then I met my wife, who completed my transformation with a magic kiss.
I digress again. Anyways, this is my big THANK YOU to the people of DU! Let's finish this business of getting George W. Bush out of the White House this year so we can get on with our everyday business of making our world a better place.
Peace be with you all,
Hunter
