Mine is easy. It's my name. (Woo, original, hey?)

What about your name? Where did you come up with it?

7. Sean 138
My handle is universal; I use it on whatever message board I go to. The '138' part comes from "We Are 138" by Misfits. It just stuck, and they seem to go together; Sean, 138. Of course, it's also because I can't seem to use Sean666.

While on the subject of message boards...is it just me, or is NEARLY EVERY FUCKING MESSAGE BOARD ONLINE cluttered with right-wingers?

Well when I registered for DU it took me awhile to come up with a username I would really like. I didn't want to come up with anything that I would have to put numbers or anything at the end of it. This was after the Broncos Champ Bailey2nd Rounder/Clinton Portis trade and I thought Champ was a pretty cool name. So I decided to choose that.

He's an unemployed guy who came up with his own Web site. He designed funny cartoons to watch about being unemployed, and asks for donations. I saw him featured on Good Morning America a couple years ago. He was doing really well until the IRS caught up with it! Now he has his own book out and everything.

He talks with this funny voice in the cartoon, drinks a lot of "coffay" and eats "fudge stripe cookays." He even has his own Cafe Press store now. I need to get one of those cool "coffay" shirts.

"GrisGris" means curse, "GumboYaYa" means everyone talking at once. DU seems like a great example of GumboYaYa to me, so I adopted that as my name.

The whole phrase "GrisGris GumboYaYa" was made famous in a Dr. John song of the same name.

33. The name of my fantasy football team.
I started playing fantasy football about 8 years ago, and I needed a team name. At the time, I was living near the "The Mall at Chestnut Hill" in Newton, MA.

Desperate to somehow link my geographic location to something indigenous-- I didn't want to pull a 'Utah Jazz' :eyes:-- I came up with the Chestnut Hill Mall Rats.

After thinking about it, I remembered that the logo and all the signage for the mall had this little pretentious thing where they moved 'The' and 'Mall' together to read "TheMall." So, it became MallRats.

And I became MallRat. There you have it.

Since then, my fantasy sports empire has extended to baseball as well, where my beloved Cambridge Angry Tofu are currently the reigning champions of our league.

Angelus then turned into Angel when he got a soul and he became a do-gooder.

It was Colleen Moore's first big hit after cutting her hair in the flapper style. It was a pretty scandalous book at the time - premarital sex, abortion, etc.

Sadly, the film is lost except for a few seconds. But since a previously "lost" Valentino film was recently discovered in the Netherlands, who knows?!?

63. Kama'aina: local Hawai'i person, opposed to "malihini" (stranger)
When I took the DU plunge after 9/11, opihimoimoi was the only other very active Hawai'i poster, so I arrogated the name KamaAina to my then still fairly recently arrived self.

Those of you who have visited (or lived!) here will recall that everything from restaurants to hotels to tourist attractions gives a "kama'aina discount" to anyone with a Hawai'i ID -- a polite way of charging us the actual price while soaking the tourists!

87. It's a Grateful Dead song
about a freak, basically. He's strung out and raving about God, and how he can see God has plans for him.
Personally, I always kinda identified with him, like maybe he's actually right and everyone around him are the delusional ones. Thus the name.

89. "Night Train" is a classic R&B instrumental.
The original "Night Train" was a movement from Duke Ellington's two-part 1947 single, "Happy-Go-Lucky Local."

In 1952, saxophonist Jimmy Forrest recorded "Night Train" as a slow, grinding R&B jam. (It reminds me of something around which a nightclub stripper might build her act.) Forrest's reading of "Night Train" spent eight weeks at #1 on the R&B charts.

A decade later, James Brown updated "Night Train" by speeding up the tempo and calling out the names of various U.S. cities at the beginning and end of the recording. The single reached #5 on the R&B charts and #35 on the pop charts in the spring of 1962.

Finally, for several years in the '90s, I used the Brown record as the opening theme of my college radio show, "The Soul Express." And who knows, someday I might just bring "Night Train" back as my theme song!

I got the idea from a bumper sticker given to me by someone whose friend made it. It had a W with a diagonal line through it, you know, sign-lingo for no (whatever is pictured on the sign), and next to it was written "Not My President."

97. My handle was created in response to the conduct at the defunct...
Gator Standard's forum (before then, I called myself "OUTRAGED TURLINGTON PREACHA," you UF and Gainesville DUers might get that). It was an upstart college press in the University of Florida funded by the College Republicans, and the webmaster was such a total jackass that he, for a while, censored the words "liberal" and "Clinton." So I called myself "Rationality" and started refuting everything he said in his op-eds, since he was also part of the editorial board. The guy never answered me, and instead only one other poster there decided to engage me in an argument on the Pregnant Pig Amendment that eventually passed in 2002. The board shut down by January 2003, but I maintained the name as I jumped to the Florida Times Union boards, the Free Republic (now banned), then here.

115. My very first political local BBS...
That's "bulletin board system" for you youngsters. Before the internet, we had local dialup forums called BBSes. I joined one that had a political bent. Seeming that nearly everyone on there was conservative, I felt "RadFem" would give them a heart attack. I was right! *grins* I always say RadFem stands for radical feminist AND radiant female. I appended the FL for Florida when I moved here 2 years ago... thus... RadFemFL.

I have also been known on the net for years as Statuesque (because I'm tall!), and my modelling name is Bella Noche (because everyone says I look Italian/mediterranean).
