Please make my coworkers stop talking about "American Idol"!

I came down to the computer room to do some work because the other music teacher has a recorder class. There's a class of 3rd graders in here, and one of their teachers started them talking about "American Idol". Now the teacher is discussing it with another teacher. Why does America have such poor taste?

In the first teacher's defense, her husband has very similar musical tastes to mine (intelligent progressive rock), so I can understand the tendency to rebel by going to the brain-dead opposite. :)

I just don't "get it..." I tried to watch it a few times, but it was just stupid. It reminds me of that horrid Star Search back in the 80's -- I always hated that too -- even though I was jsut a kid. Something nauseating about talent searches...
