Where should I go on holiday?

I was supposed to be away with work for most of the summer, but that's looking pretty unlikely now.

Where should I go on holiday instead? I'm thinking somewhere in Europe, probably central/eastern 'cause it's cheap & not too far away. The middle east & north Africa are a bit scary for a tall, blond, blue eyed chap just now.

Can anyone recommend somewhere east of Germany, north of Syria, west of the Urals & south of Zemlya Franz Josef (or something like that) they've really liked?

1. Croatia

I would have recommended you Syria as it's one of my best memories of traveling. Croatia seems a good idea, lovely towns and beaches.
