Skinner, a Chihuahua picture for you!
In honor of your little fellow, Romeo, I'm posting this picture of me with my Chihuahua, Pedro. I found this the other day. I'm not admitting how old the picture actually is, but I was in high school when it was taken.

3. I have a Pom too!
He's insane but I love him. His name is Max, and I call him the Lone Pomeranian of the Apocalypse.

He's positive he's a German Shepherd. Very protective of me unless directly challenged. :P

Gotta love little pups!

2. Here's another one.
Gotta love a Chihuahua thread! Pedro is a cutie.

This is Tink.

Tink is technically my mom's dog, but she has two, and I love this little dog like she was my own. She's not quite a year old.

15. About 3 pounds.
She doesn't even look like a real dog. She thinks she's a Great Dane, though. She has a real low, deep growl that cracks me up, coming from such a little bit of a dog.

8. I still have it, Skittles!
It's almost as long now, too. It was mid-thigh in the picture...it's hip-length now. Every time I cut it off, I regret it and want it back. The only difference is that I no longer swim twice a day, so it isn't blonde now.

20. I cut mine off a long time ago, when I was in the military in fact
I've always had difficult to handle hair - it's gotta be short. Lord I hope I don't end up with hair like my English grandma - a freaking orange Afro, I kid you not. :o

6. Chi people!! I have two, Toro (5) and Tico (rescue, ~3)
Tico recently has become a bed Chihuahua and it's calmed him down considerably to snuggle up with my my mother.

My picked-up-off-the-street min pin, Slicker, is my bed dog....

7. Sorry for hijacking your thread with my own pic
I just saw the word Chihuahua and hit post. I feel compelled to post her pic whenever anyone mentions Chihuahuas.

10. No, that's what the post is for!
and your Tink is a real beauty - looks like she could be a showgirl. I assume she's pedigreed, she certainly looks it. Pedro wasn't - his mom was (she was a 2-1/2 pound teacup), but the little trollop sneaked out and had an assignation with ... something. We don't know what, but whatever it was, it was tiny, as Pedro was only 4 pounds full-grown himself. Chihuahua people used to run up to me all excited when I was walking him and ask about his papers (because small males are very prized - you don't want the females to be too small, or they have trouble giving birth, so you want tiny males). They were always horribly crestfallen to find out he was an "oops."

All the years they had Tequila, his mother, my mom and her girlfriend tried to breed her to these fancy grand champion Chis...and she never got pregnant. So here she was, 10 years old - really much too old for a first litter - and she sneaks out and finds some street dog! She really was too old for it; the other puppy died and Pedro was ... strange. They spayed her after he was born. She lived to be nearly 20 years old. She was a sweet, sweet dog.

My mother gave Pedro away when I moved out, and didn't even tell me. I'm still a little pissed about that, and it's been nearly 30 years.

11. She's pedigreed, but not for show.
She's only going to top out at about 4 lbs at the most. She's very tiny.

What a sweet, funny story about Tequila. One of those mid-life oops babies. :)

9. Chihuahua story
Edited on Tue May-18-04 11:50 AM by pagerbear
I work in financial printing. I was once working on a prospectus/offering statement for a mining and ore refining concern that had locations throughout Mexico. So when I got to references to a Chihuahua smelter....

18. He looks so much like Pedro that it brings tears to my eyes
although Pedro didn't have the heart on his forehead that Romeo has; he was a little darker. He was a little tiny guy who thought he was a pit bull. In retrospect, I realize we should have had him neutered, but people didn't often do that with male dogs in those days. He was super-aggressive with other male dogs and would pick fights with BIG dogs. Dumb little bastid!

He was a warped little creature, but I loved him. He was my doggie. I used to take him hiking with me, and he'd run run run until his little pawpads were raw. He had no idea he was supposed to be a delicate little housepet; he was a DOG. I used to carry him everywhere inside my coat, which is what I was doing in the picture. He'd suddenly pop his head out and startle the hell out of people. :D
