Where's your favorite Florida vacation spot?
Cities? Resorts? Specific hotels? I'm partial to the Gulf side, but I'm open.

Thanks

2. Absolutely love Panama City Beach
There's enough activity to keep it interesting after nightfall but not too crowded if you go at the right time of the year.

18. The Keys first, St. Augustine a close second
I'm sentimentally biased toward the Keys because it revives memories of weekends with my grandfather when I was about 10. We would head down there seemingly every Saturday morning at about 4 AM, catching shrimp on Long Key before a full day of fishing off the bridges and a small boat.

Agreed, extremely relaxing. Whenever I'm in Miami and get rained out in golf, a drive to the Keys is a terrific substitute, even if little more than a turnaround.

The old fort in St. Augustine is amazing and plenty of culture in the area, as someone mentioned later in this thread. The golf and beaches are great and not too far from Jacksonville. Several of my cousins have relocated to St. Augustine.

I used to leave close to New Smyrna Beach and I really got a kick out of watching thinderstoms cruise up and down the coast.....

I wish everybody could have that experience.........

11. Okay, I'm going against the grain here but
Lakeland, Fl.

Here's the reason: My friend took me down to Lakeland and introduced me to her friends and we had such a great time. Yeah, it was kind of a hillbilly place and we went bar hopping and all but that week was one of the most enjoyable of my life. Her friends were so much fun and graciously welcomed me into their home. We also went to St. Petersburg one day which was fun.

My brother lives in Naples and before I had enough money to really have a vacation I spent some time with him and believe me, if I go back to Florida for a vacation I'll head up to Lakeland, not Naples.

23. You've gotta be kidding....
I live near Lakeland now, having just moved up from Fort Myers... And Naples is at least near water... it is so STRANDED and REDNECK here. Maybe I'm missing something... Lakeland?

I think it's time for me to consider moving back to the northeast.

14. St. Augustine Florida...
It's a gem. The architecture is unusual and beautiful, the views are incredible, the beaches great, and there is enough to see and do to last a week of sightseeing and museum visiting. There are professional and amature theatre productions all the time and some kind of cultural festival almost every weekend.

Fort Myers and Fort Myers Beach area are second on my list, and Old Town Kissimmee gets an honorable mention.

21. Hate any part of Florida.
Lived there all my life up to 1989 when I finally got smart and moved to Georgia. At least there are seasons here, not just
summer, summer, summer and summer.

25. When you live in Wisconsin, it's nice to go to Florida
at least for a week or so. We used to go every year when I was a kid. I still remember the smell of the salt air mixed with orange blossoms.

Now I want to go too
