8. Furs

I just found about an interesting subculture - the furs. These are people (who if I understand correctly) believe they are an animal trapped in a human body. I watched a show last night showing some of them even getting whisker implants and leopard spots although most furs consider taking that to an extreme.

So, sex with a 'fur' may not necessarily be bestiality.

Incidentally, I'm an animal in bed. :evilgrin:

What show was this? I was the single Fur vote, though I don't think I'm an animal trapped in a human body, that's a furry 'subculture', of which there are many, for some reason. I just happen to be attracted to anthromorphs and don't find humans attractive at all. Meh, saves me a lot of stress due to dating and whatnot.

Leopard spots might be hot though :D

I was educated about this by some DUers a few months ago.

You see, I always thought the way you did--that it was one's genetic or biological orientation, and that it was very important that we refer to it that way, because of the reason you stated.

What the gay people on this site kindly and gently explained to me was that, why can't it be a choice? If we truly and completely believe that being gay is as valid and ethical a lifestyle as being heterosexual, then CHOOSING to be gay should be just as valid as CHOOSING to be straight.

What they also explained to me is that the fundies' position is based on hatred and TRYING to take away their rights and freedoms, so who the hell cares what they think?

I was very enlightened by that exchange here on DU.

Have you ever known any fully homosexual person to say that they chose it?? I haven't, and I am in that category.

Now, bisexual people might 'choose' a certain partner of one gender or the other, but they didn't choose to be bisexual.

The Fundies are WRONG, and using the term 'orientation' affirms that. Since they control many local elections, I am afraid we have to care what they think. But someday, it will be scientifically proven that orientation is innate, and then their pronouncements of sin and guilt in this matter is KAPUT.

I prefer orientation due to my abiding belief that it is the truth for the overwhelming majority of LGBT people. I also think strategically having it thought (correctly I believe) to be beyond people's control makes rights a much easier sell to the great expanse of straight America who are on the fence. While I appreciate the argument of the other side I don't agree with it.

What is the danger though is if a gay gene is discovered and it is believed to be a defect or sickness as opposed to a naturally occuring phenomna. We could see eradication of LGBT people via abortion or gene therapy. Neither would be very good results.
