Has anyone seen the movie "Love, Actually"?

Just finished watching it, and it was highly enjoyable. If you like Bridget Jones-Notting Hill-Hugh Grant Vessel movies, you'll love it. :-)

Hugh Grant plays the Prime Minister, and Billy Bob Thornton plays the American President. They both are set up as the after-Blair/Bush leaders of their respective countries, and there's a fantastic press conference scene where Hugh lets the US Prez have it. Sure, it likely wouldn't happen in the real world, and US Presidents don't suffer fools, but it was an exciting scene, and must have stirred some British hearts.

I recommend it... and now I'm off to watch "The Fog of War," a much darker film/documentary...

Yes, "Fog of War" came out Tuesday! I'm going to chat a bit longer on DU, and then plug it in with expectations of having my mind blown.

I also rented "Stuck on You." Kinda stupid/fun, in that Farrelly Brothers way. :-)

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful movie!!! "Whale Rider" is one of those rare films that stays with you months after seeing it...

9. have you seen "The Contender"?

Joan Allen as a Democratic senator from Ohio who is in line to be the next VP when the current one dies. Jeff Bridges is another one of those "I wish he was the real president" movie presidents.

Great script, great acting, and lots of twists. You will love hating Gary Oldman as the bad GOP guy.

Rent it if you have not seen it.

10. LOVED The Contender... remember how Oldman disavowed it...

... after its release? He's a rightie, and he didn't care for the evil way in which his character was portrayed.

No doubt! He played that character a little too close to home...

Ok.. another recommendation...

"Election". Alexander Payne's second film, which tells more truths about teachers, schools, and little repuke overachievers than anyone has put on film (I am an ex-social studies high school teacher). Matthew Broderick is the anti-Ferris as the social studies teacher, and Reese Witerspoon is chillingly plastic. Good fun.

15. Holy crap!!! ZW, "Election" is the best political satire film EVER MADE.

Dear God... the bee-sting scene...

And that music they play whenever Tracy/Reese shows up on-screen...

14. I saw Whale Rider and The Contender...

...and I think Gary Oldman was protesting his character ending up as a bit of a caricature once his part was edited down. As a Brit, maybe Gary doesn't realize that most Republicans are caricatures.

And yes, Whale Rider was beautiful.

16. I saw it last week- Good Movie

I love those "Bridget Jones-Notting Hill-Hugh Grant Vessel movies", so it was highly enjoyable. The English ensemble romantic comedies rock, but I got very, very sad after watching it. If it's not a good time in your life to be romantically idealistic in any way, shape, or form, it can bring out emotions, but maybe it's just me being the sappy fool I am. :shrug:

I got a little sad at the end too... I usually do, in those kinds of movies.

I remember getting more than a bit sad watching Hugh Grant walk out of that elevator in his first "Bridget Jones" scene, and thinking, "how come men that perfectly gorgeous don't exist in real life?" :+

I understand. That scene of everyone hugging at the airport was... well... a little heartwrenching. :-(
