Question for Computer Techies...

....I'm trying to uninstall a program on my computer (MusicMatch). WHen I go to the "Add/Remove Programs" feature in my Control Panel, I select MusicMatch and hit the button that should start the uninstall process.

Nothing happens . The cursor goes into the hour-glass mode for a few seconds, then I see just briefly a window flash on the screen before it disappears (happens so fast, I can't see what it is).

And then the whole thing just sits there and does nothing. I've looked for the "uninstall" file in the MusicMatch folder, but can't find it.

What should I do now? I need to reinstall the program because it's not working right. Getting technical assistance from these folks is not easy, it wouldn't seem.

1. Manually uninstall it

It's more tedious than complicated. You have to mess with your registry, so be forewarned...

You *could* just reformat your drive...;)

Manual is a lot easier than it looks. Just takes a little patience.

I don't know about re-installing then uninstalling; you could try it.

Or, you could download the trial version of System Mechanic. I think it has a souped up uninstall utility.

3. Musicmatch - glitchy
Speaking of MusicMatch, I've had lots of problems with that program. It's very glitchy and very sensitive to other music programs when I have more than one running (like Rhapsody and Napster). I just recently bought a Creative Nomad and the desktop program that came with it is far better than MusicMatch. I'm migrating everything over to it.

But to your problem.....I wonder if you can just delete it from your registry. You'd want to backup your registry first before deleting any files from it. Maybe a more computer saavy person can weigh in on this. If you don't get any responses, and want to try this, PM me and I'll PM you back the steps.

4. I read somewhere...

That you can re-install a program over itself then use the new "uninstall" file to get rid of the whole thing....

DOes this make sense?

5. Yeah, that makes sense
I never thought of that. Have you tried emailing MusicMatch tech support? The easiest thing might be to wait and see what they say. I know how it is, though, if you're trying to get it down NOW and have no idea when you'll hear back from them.

7. The automatic email funciton...

...in the MM software doesn't seem to work for me. I just tried downloading the install file, but it gives me an error message (related to some registry issue) when I click on it.

I may just include this on the list of things to do when I take it in to the shop, which I was planning on doing.

God, this is SOOO stupid!! Thanks for your help.

8. Here, just send a direct email to them:
techsupp@musicmatch.com
Are you a registered (paying) user? I think they'll only respond to registered users.

11. I don't think they post their email address anywhere in the program..
I've sent requests for tech support help via their automated link in the past and then when they reply, voila, I have their email address.
:bounce:
Good luck!
