Why am I getting carded at Walmart?
Don't flame me for buying things at Walmart. I had my reasons in each of these cases.
In the first case, a week ago I was buying a "mature rated" video game for my neighbor, whose mother said that was alright, they carded me to make sure I was at least 17. Then this morning, I bought starter fluid for my lawn mower and I was carded for that too.
I am 26 years old. Even though I don't look old, I don't think that I look like a teenager. I am also married and wear my wedding ring. Do they crack down on stores that sell these items to minors? It just seems weird.

1. because after 9-11, everything is different now,
and we have to be willing to sacrifice our freedoms in order to preserve them. I applaud WalMart, probably the most patriotic AMERICAN company we have, for helping out.

/sarcasm off, spitting the taste of filth out of my mouth for coming up with that line of crap.

2. Yep
A number of stores around here have been busted for selling liquor & cigarettes to minors.

A big company (with deep pockets) has a vested interest in making sure that they don't open themselves to liability in cases like this; they have an army of lawyers that sends down directives about procedures for handling any number of items, including glues, paints, lighter fluid, and yes, booze and smokes.

4. Solution: Don't Shop at WallMart
Their profits go into busting unions and funding the Bush Administration. Is shopping there really that important to you?

5. I usually don't shop there
It is just ultra convient for me. I don't like driving and it is about 200m from my door so if I need something quick like I did with my lawn mower, I walk there.

7. they card pretty much every one now
the last time I shopped there I bought an R-rated movie and got carded even though I look a lot older than I am (20). I'm guessing they're carding anyone who looks under 30.

solution: quit shopping there.
