Do you have a question that demands an answer?
Edited on Sat May-15-04 11:14 AM by Snoggera
Has something been rolling around in your head for awhile that demands a solution?

Ask that question here, and I'm certain many will have an answer.

My question:

Why don't feet have thumbs?

1. Why can't I ever get a red light when I actually need one?
You know, like when I'm trying to change CDs in my car stereo. Then, and only then, does the bloody light quickly turn green! :grr:

2. Why don't we learn to write with our feet?

3. Another question
Why doesn't time travel backwards? Is it afraid of tripping over itself?

5. I think
big toes and thumbs are homologous appendages that have grown specialized as humans started walking upright. Bipedalism freed our upper limbs for other tasks and increasing manual dexterity; over time this resulted in an opposable thumb. I think the reason our toes are so short, relative to our fingers, is because there wasn't the need for dexterity, only stability allowed by the heavier, more 'fused' structure of the foot. Look at the extremities of other primates; none are habitually bipedal and they're hands and feet are extremely similar in structure. As a side note, I've read that people who lose thier thumbs often have their big toes amputated and grafted to their hand. Apparently we are more reliant on our opposable thumbs than our big toes, but one of the consequences of the surgery was that over time their ankles, knees and hips all became weakened and their gaits grew increasingly akward. Without treatment it would become crippling, seems the big toe is actually very important in how we walk.

6. Did someone try to fix this?
Whatever you did, can it be undone? It wasn't working great to begin with, but now it doesn't work at all. No, now it's completely broken.

Who is taking the batteries out of the remote control, and why? and what are they now being used for? a game, a flashlight, another remote, a clock? Now we have no batteries, so it's the "Survivor" show in the household. I'm voting off the flashlight.

Why have all my work papers and notes, music and personal effects been removed from the car interior and dumped into the trunk, plus a lot of gasoline is gone from the tank? Was the car in "Trading Spaces" but they didn't get done in time and just ended up hiding the stuff that was in the way except for the unique accent pieces of food wrappers and mud and sporting equipment? It was Hilde, I bet.
