South Africa will host the 2010 World Cup

For any soccer (football) fans out there.

South Africa has won the right to host the 2010 World Cup finals after holding off the challenge of Morocco.

The announcement of the vote by Fifa president Sepp Blatter in Zurich was greeted with delight from the South African bid delegation including former president Nelson Mandela.

The favourites beat Morocco 14-10 in the final vote to become the first African country to host the event.

1. I grew up in South Africa under apartheid watching the whites

only professional soccer league. My dream was to see a full South African team competing in the World Cup. To have the World Cup being played in South Africa is even more amazing when I look back on what was happening 15 years ago.

I never thought I would see this in my lifetime so believe me, nothing is going to stop me from going back for the World Cup.

2. It does amaze me

that within 20 years of ending apartheid they will host the cup.

I hope I will be able to make it there.
