After Peaches Geldof, I suppose it had to be another fruity name...

Paltrow gives birth to baby Apple

US actress Gwyneth Paltrow, 31, has given birth to her first child, a girl called Apple.

The Hollywood star underwent a long labour before delivering her first born at a London hospital on Friday.

Gwyneth and her husband Chris Martin, front man in the band Coldplay, have named their daughter Apple Blythe Alison Martin.

The baby weighed 9 pounds 11 ounces and both mother and baby were said to be doing well.

5. I think
Blythe Alison sounds beautiful on its own, but...to each her own! I just hope Apple isn't subjected to too much torment at the hands of her schoolmates.

Anyway, 9 lbs. 11 oz...geez! Gwynnie really is skinny minnie! How the hell did she lug that around? I thought my mom (a woman with a more average sized frame) was HUGE in the pics of her at 9 mos. pregnant with my 9 lb brother, but WOW. :o

6. What a stupid idiot Gwnnie is...........
EWWWWW......she plays so elusive in interviews and then names her poor innocent baby a name that will just grab attention.

What a stupid, arrogant fool that female is. Again, I pity her poor baby, having such a lightweight for a parent. :(

15. I could see your point if the kids name were Moonbeam, or Moon Unit
or Dweezil, or StarSearch or something.

But naming a baby Apple doesn't, IMO, paint someone as unstable.

7. Congrats to Gwyneth!
While I don't get the name thing either (my children all have very classic names), I suppose it's her choice.

Big baby though. My biggest one was the same size. All of mine were pretty big actually (and massive craniums) and yep, long labors too (and subsequent c-sections). Ouch! :(

The up side to big babies (at least in my experience) is that they'll sleep a good 5 hour stretch from the get go during the night. For new parents, that's like Heaven. O8)
