While on the subject of urine, what's the best cat litter?
I've inherited the care of my brother's cat. He's been using some stuff that covers urine odor with it's own (sarcasm on) fresh, sweet smell (like the very butt of the perfume god). The only thing worse than the smell of cat pee is adding perfume to cat pee. I beleive the best smell is no smell. Hate perfumey smells. Is there any cat litter that can deal with the urine odor and remain "unscented"?

The damned litter box is way too close to where I watch tv. Can't move it, it's in the best possible place now.

1. I'm in the process of..
toilet training my cat (as in, literally training her to use the toilet), so I've been trying some different types of flushable litter. There are some natural kinds made from corn which have no perfume and work pretty well. The main problem is that they are pricey. I think we're using arm & hammer right now, and it works pretty well. I don't notice a perfume odor from it. We clean out the litter box nightly, which really helps.

3. From Experience
There are six cats here living in a limited space, so we share a bathroom. I use Fresh Step and neither the odor of cat odure or perfume is noticeable (but I clean the box at least once a day and feed them a high-quality meat-based diet).

For one cat, you might consider one of the silica 'crystal' litters. Most of them are unscented, and quickly absorb urine. As with any litter, daily cleaning makes life better for all concerned.

4. Costco
has a clumping litter that does not have perfume but baking soda and some blue beads (don't know what they are). It seems to take care of the smell and the cats do not smell like dust.

6. The most effective cat litter
is the one where you kill your frigging cat before you pour it into the bin.

Works great. None of that cat piss and tuna-crap on the beach smell.
