We had the A/C on earlier in the week; nothing on the last couple of days. Today, we needed the heat. ($#%# Wisconsin.) Completely kaput.

Called the furnace guy with a description of the problem. He said it could be a clogged hose (which would end up just being the trip charge), it could be the pilot burner (which isn't too expensive), it could be one or more major component ($$$$/or it may be time to discuss replacement).

Since it's only $20 extra to have a tech come out on a Friday night (vs. waiting until Monday), I'm now waiting for the furnace guy. Not my idea of a fun Friday night.

This thing worked beautifully in below-zero weather. :grr:

1. Wish I could send you some heat from here.
Where I live in Mexico it's over 100 today and very humid. I work up a sweat just blinking. I'd gladly accept some cool weather in exchange.

2. The weather is absolutely bizarre these days
In the northeast we've gone from winter to blazing summer almost overnight-- and I wouldn't be surprised if it goes down to 30 again.

3. It's making me ill, too...
I went from allergies to full-on cold (I know one doesn't cause the other, but still) to a horribly stiff neck (don't worry, it's getting better) in three days.

Furnice guy, where are you? You said it would be 45-60 minutes...it's been 60...(I know, I've ordered 1,000,000 pizzas and "45-60" always means "we'll get there when we get there, and if you call at the 75-to-90 minute mark to complain, we'll throw in some breadsticks").

4. once had to call the furnace guy on MLK holiday
that was not cheap. We are hot - it has been in the 80s here. we turned off the furnace about a month ago. I am bummed about the heat since I had to go right to shorts.., and I was looking forward to wearing spring clothes!

5. Well, crap.
RIP Carrier Weathermaker SXi.
1989-2004.

You cost us too damn much in repair parts.

Apparently....the a/c has something leaky on it (which shouldn't cost too much to fix). The leak took out the computer on the furnace motor. $750 to fix (and have no guarantee, beyond the waranty on this specific repair, that something else won't go wrong), vs. $3,000 to replace (with a 5-year warranty and MUCH cheaper repair costs after that).

$2,000 in repair parts already in this machine over its life.

It's time.
