Is this a hoax? (Email warning of virus)
My brother just sent me this email (the signature at the end is someone I don't know). It looks to me like a hoax. Does anybody here know anything about it?

Subject: Possible Virus
Date: Wednesday, May 12, 2004 9:26 AM was notified today by someone whose address book I am in that he
>had found a virus that someone had attached to his computer. It
>supposedly
>attaches to everyone in his address book and C drive.
>
>This morning I did find that virus on my C drive. Therefore, since you

>are
>in my address book, you will probably find it in your computer too.

The
>virus (called jdbg.exe) is not detected by Norton
>or McAfee Anti-virus systems. The virus sits quietly for 14 days
before
>damaging the system. It is sent automatically by 'messenger' and by
>address
>book, whether or not you've sent e-mail to your contacts. Here is how

>to
>check for the virus and how to get rid of it.
>
>PLEASE DO THIS ASAP (it will only take a minute)
>
>1. Go to Start, and then click your 'Find' or 'Search' option
>
>2. In the folder option, type the name... jdbgm
>
>3. Be sure to search your C Drive and all the folders an! ! d any
other
>drives
>you may have
>
>4. Click 'Find Now'
>
>5. The virus has a teddy bear icon with the name jdbgmgr.exe Do not
>open it!
>
>6. Go to Edit (on the menu bar) and choose "Select All" to highlight
>the file without opening it.
>7. Now go to File (on the menu bar) and select delete. It will then go

>to
>the recycle bin. If you find the virus, you must contact all the
people
>in
>your Address Book so that they may eradicate the virus from their own

>address books. To do this:
>
>1. Open a new e-mail message
>
>2. click the icon Address Book next to 'TO'
>
>3. Highlight every name and add to "BCC"
>
>4. Copy this message and paste

All are sent by people named, say: bluto_49_popeye@hotmail.com.

Any time you read the above you know it is a hoax.

4. No, it's a good file

Don't delete it. Not necessary, unless you're programming java, but no need to delete it.

5. Hoax. But in all seriousness there is one hell of a virus running around
Its called Gaobot. If you know anything about virie this thing is a monster. Make sure you go to micro$oft and get all your updates. This thing basically combines all the weaknesses and exploits that came out in the past year or so. It can rapid spread via port exploits or it can hit via email. It even can enter in through backdoors left open by other virus's which it then kills and takes over. After it takes up residence it opens its own back door and waits for commands from its source.

Of 519 instances of this beast. One thing: after you clean that out, goto "System Restore" and clean out all the system restore points you can. It can hide in those restore points.
