Although it's pretty damn near the threshold.

I might give it a try tomorrow.

3. i'm re-reading the illiad this week, & will see troy next weekend
the robert fitzgerald translation is the best i have read.

hector has always been my archtypical hero; brave, loyal son, father, and husband. achilles was a boor.

unique for the greeks, they elevated their adversaries to admiration in their literature.

aeschylus, in his "the persians" circa 472 bce actualy wrote of the tragedy of the persians losing to the greeks at marathon and salamis.

and aeschylus fought in both battles against the persians too.

4. Nude Brad Pitt?
A local radio reporter/reviewer made a quick comment about the audience being able to see as much skin on Brad Pitt as Jennifer Aniston does at home.

That still leaves a lot to the imagination.

6. I saw it this afternoon
Damn, it's long. Go to the bathroom beforehand.

In college, I studied all that classical literature and stuff. But I was having a hard time keeping it all straight...so I have no idea if they played fast & loose with the screenplay. Someone else perhaps can enlighten me.

About the Brad Pitt flesh--yes, there are a couple of scenes where he's obviously in the altogether. I get the impression, from interviews and such, that he was quite nervous about those "nude" scenes. It was really no big deal. And, unless Jennifer shields her eyes at home so she can only see him above the waist, it wasn't the same. :P Yes, I'm a chick, but I really thought they were no big deal. Maybe because the scenes were very much a part of the story line and not at all gratuitous. Done in a classy way, even.

I will say BP obviously worked very hard to get in shape and learn swordfighting. His fight scenes are athletic and graceful and seem effortless. I was terribly impressed.

I won't spoil anything; I thought the movie was OK but not great. Worth seeing. It gets better after the first 30 minutes.

One funny thing to look for: When Helen's husband discovers she's run away, he yells, "She left with the Trojans?!?"

I laughed out loud. Oops. But I wasn't the only one!

Enjoy!

8. & Orlando Bloom as Paris, too....
I'd see it just for those two stars, even if the movie weren't very good. Not to mention Peter O'Toole as King Priam.
