Any futon experts out there?
I want to get a full-size futon on the cheap (~$300, preferably about $200). So here's the clincher: Wal-Mart has one for $198. But I REALLY don't want to go to Wal-Mart. Does anyone know of any alternatives to discount stores that are ultra-cheap like Wal-Mart?

Of course, here in NYC you can't swing a cat without hitting a futon store--space is so scarce!

3. Check the Internet
You can order one, or find a local company who has a web site.

After checking the web site, call them (or just call local companies) and try to negotiate a fair price.

I've found local, non-franchise furniture places can be price flexible.

5. Check Around
But I highly reccommend getting one with a fairly thick futon. K-Mart sells one so thin everything telegraphs through after 2 days.

8. We have a store here in town that specializes in futons......
Look in the phone book and see if you have something similar you can also try mattress stores. Put your money into the mattress and not the frame. We bought inexpensive frames and good mattresses and that seems to have made all the difference.

9. Try BIG LOTS if there's one close to you...
My wife works part time at our local Big Lots. I've seen several really nice futons there.
