May 13, 2004 (BIRMINGHAM, Ala.) — Alleged cross-dressing thieves have been taking some Alabama car dealerships for a ride.
Alabama authorities say three men took expensive new cars from dealerships in Tuscaloosa, Selma, Montgomery, Huntsville and Birmingham and drove them to cross-dressing pageants before abandoning them.
Police said the men were sometimes dressed as women, sometimes dressed as their biologically-natural selves — but they used the same methods in all their alleged heists.
Police said they would go to car dealerships in a group and two of the men would shower the salesman with questions and requests to see and test drive cars. Another member of the group would stand aside and find out where the salesman kept the car keys. The alleged thieves would then secretly take the keys and drive away with the car to weekend pageant shows.
