May 12th in rock and roll history
1960 - ABC-TV aired a Frank Sinatra special in which "Old Blue Eyes" and Elvis Presley traded hits. Elvis performed "Witchcraft," and Sinatra crooned "Love Me Tender."

1963 - Bob Dylan cancelled an appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show" after CBS censors refused to allow him to perform the controversial folk song "Talking John Birch Society Blues."

1968 - Jimi Hendrix was arrested for possession of hashish and heroin as he crossed the Canadian border for a concert in Toronto. The singer claimed the drugs were planted, and he was later cleared of all charges.

1971 - Mick Jagger married Bianca Perez Morena de Macias in St. Tropez, France. The wedding guests included the other members of the Rolling Stones, along with Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton and Stephen Stills.

1975 - The Jefferson Starship gave a free concert in New York's Central Park for 60,000 fans. The band and concert sponsor, WNEW-FM, wound up having to pay the city $14,000 to repair damage done by the audience to the park.

1979 - The new Jefferson Starship lineup, featuring lead singer Mickey Thomas, made their debut at a free concert in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park.

Nobody had to pay anything to the City of San Francisco, because only about a dozen people showed up...would have been more, but a bus broke down. (being sarcastic...actually enjoyed the post, but couldn't resist a wise-ass-Mickey-Thomas-comment) Did you know they built that city on rock and roll?

2. Ah, back before WNEW went to the shithouse
Those of you dno't know, simply don't understand what was lost in the world of rock and roll when WNEW went to shit a few years ago. I'm glad I had a few years here in NYC with the real WNEW.

A lot of people will never know of the importance of that radio station for the history of rock music, and that's very sad.
