1. Well, "Ode to Billie Joe,"
...has the 3rd of June in it. Another sleepy, dusty, delta day...

And was it "Poppa Was a Rolling Stone" that opens with "It was the third of September...?"

4. Well, that was just too easy
It was the third of June
Another sleepy, dusty, delta day
I was out choppin' cotton
And my brother was bailin' hay
And at dinner time we stopped
And walked back to the house to eat
And Mama hollered at the door
"Y'all remember to wipe your feet."
Then she said
"I got some news this mornin' from Choctaw Ridge
"Today Billy Joe McAllister
"Jumped off the Tallahatchee Bridge."
Papa said to Mama as he passed around the black-eyed peas
"Well, Billy Joe never had a lick o' sense,
"Pass the biscuits, please.

and so on...

3. Try this one
Summer's here and the time is right for "what" in the streets.

There are three answers.

11. I remember playing it on jukeboxes when I was in the Navy.
And I got out in 1969. So it was popular in the late 60's.

"Wherever he laid his hat was his home"

14. Must not have been the Temptations' version then.
And if I remember correctly, the song was written specifically for the Temptations - in 1972.

My mother distinctly recalls seeing Billy Sunday preach, despite the fact that he died seven years before she was born. Is it possible that you remember hearing the song later, and have simply "transplanted" it into the sixties?
