8. Yes. But please don't say anything. Being a Manilow fan is...
...a very hard cross to bear.

Actually I like just one Manilow song, "Could It Be Magic." The melody is a direct rip-off of a Chopin Prelude, and well done, I might add.

18. It was something I posted.
And I deleted it because it was idiotic and I don't want to waste bandwidth here with my irrelevancies.

Down on myself right now. Sorry.

17. Musta been one of my mortal enemies... I'm a bit at a loss to explain
that one myself. It's quite a head-scratcher. Isn't it?

But you have to admit... seeing it there is quite a humorous looking little oddity.

20. Been waiting for an excuse to post this
http://www.celebatheists.com/entries/atheist_22.html#1

In the November 18, 1998 issue The Independent (a UK daily newspaper), Manilow is questioned by readers. Two of interest are below:

Q: Do you believe in God?

A: Yes. His name is Clive Davis, and he's the head of my record company.

Q: How important is your Judaism to you?

A: It isn't. My humanism is.

23. Her Name Was Lola... She Was A Show Girl
With yellow feathers in her hair
And a dress cut down to there
She would merengue and do the cha-cha
And while she tried to be a star, Tony always tended bar
Across a crowded floor, they worked from 8 till 4
They were young and they had each other
Who could ask for more?

At the Copa (CO!), Copacabana (Copacabana)
The hottest spot north of Havana (here)
At the Copa (CO!), Copacabana
Music and passion were always the fashion
At the Copa....they fell in love

----

How can anyone but the most cynical NOT love that song??!! (or not catch themselves tapping their toe to the beat when nobody's looking) It's so fun!

26. His music's largely the antithesis of what really appeals to me, but
some of those songs -- ones he wrote and ones he sang -- are part of the soundtrack to my life, the earlier years, and so they hold some appeal. Some quite a bit more than others. He wrote some catchy ditties, dammit, and every now and then one'll get stuck in my mind for too long.

There's also the fact that I have certain pleasant 'romantic' memories that his songs were also the soundtrack to, the other person involved being rather keen on the Manilowster. I'm very close with a big fan of his, who's going to his June 5 Vegas show, and I can't say that I exactly 'get it,' but I do appreciate that lots of other people do and he seems to do a good job live. More than can be said for many performers. I don't think he has a very good voice, but he does most of his songs really well and the overall package just works -- sounds like he's more amazed than anyone that his career's lasted this long and that he's resurfaced to success this many times. Still, I myself have not fallen prey to his sheer animal magnetism...

And I still recall my father's spontaneous comment when we first saw him on TV, in the '70s: "he looks like a truckload of orangutans' a**holes!" Always one for a colorful turn of phrase, this one perhaps prompted by the preponderance of pretty boys charting in the '70s and BM's slight departure from that model, though I think that the object of his comment has grown into his features pretty well (certainly better than Mick Jagger, who's still at least mostly grown into his lips) and could easily be played by Clay Aiken in the eventual biopic.
