Terrebonne fishermen land $73,000 worth of marijuana

(Isle Dernieres-AP) -- A group of sport fishermen made an unexpected catch on an uninhabited barrier island that has kept Terrebonne Parish authorities busy.

Sheriff Jerry Larpenter says about 52 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated 73-thousand-500 dollars on the streets, was found over the weekend on Hawaiian Island off Terrebonne Parish's coast, not far from Isle Dernieres.

Larpenter says the marijuana was packed in a bale and found Sunday on the Gulf of Mexico side of the island.

The sheriff says federal authorities have been notified about the drugs, which are now in the hands of the Terrebonne Narcotics Task Force. Authorities say it's not the first time they've found illegal drugs in that area of the parish, but it is a larger catch than usual.

I remember a story awhile back where someone was fishing and ended up fishing out a bag of money stolen from a local bank. He turned the money in but he could've threw one hell of a party. I believe there was about 2,000 in there.
