Poll question: If these gas prices keep getting higher...
Edited on Wed May-12-04 11:51 AM by Angelus
are you going to give up driving your car and finding another means of transportation, whether it's public transportation or riding a bike?

1. Living rural
I can't give up my vehicle, but my summer travel plans include a lot less driving.

4. I understand completely.
I live 10 miles from the nearest town (here at home anyways), and I can't give up my car either.

Thank God it gets 25 miles to the gallon. :)

2. Other; I love my Prius
I get (real world) 44 MPG. I can still afford the gas for now.

5. I've got you beat
My Harley gets 45 mpg and the weather here in Sacramento has been great! Plus, free parking!

6. No busses between my home and work
Seriously, unless you live in a densely urban area, public transit is usually a joke. Even if I were to drive to the nearest bus-stop to my home (about 5 miles away), I'd have to deal with the fact that our lousy bus routes turn a 10 minute car trip into a 1 hour bus trip with four transfers each way.

Cars are king outside of the big cities.

8. Sadly there is NO public transportation where I live
but I only drive about 60 miles a week (for hapkido classes) so I am not all that upset.

9. How about a combination?
Currently I drive to work every day. I live about ten freeway miles from work, but unfortunately I don't have my bike and there are no safe paths for walking/biking from my current residence.

HOWEVER, I am moving in about 2 weeks and when I do so I will be only 3 blocks from a transit center. I also will be a little closer to work so that I can actually bike!!!

I can't wait to see the savings!

Current Prices
Parking: $6 per day X 5 days per week: $30 a week
Gas: 1 tank per week: $15 a week

Future Prices
Bus: $3.50 per day X 3 days per week: $10.50 per week
Parking & Gas for meeting days: $8.00
Bike: One day per week: Free

So...instead of paying $45 per week for transportation I will be spending 18.50. That's a pretty big savings. Now I will still need my car for running errands and my second job, but think of all I will save!!!

Yay!
