6. totally
and you can buy an even more powerful version, but it's the free one I've been using for years.

2. AVG is a real butt kicker
Lots of updates, totally free, totally in the background, with excellent heuristics. Been using it for years, and love it.

And when it scans the harddrive, it doesn't bog down the computer in the way taht Norton does.

5. AVG is the best. It is free, updates are free. Better then most paid for
version of antivirus.

7. Another nod for AVG... with one caveat.
If you use Microsoft Outlook (not Outlook Express), it must not be running when AVG auto-updates. For me, that was a big problem, as I use Outlook and I leave my computer on 24 hours a day. Other than that it was a great program. I'm using McAfee now.

8. I always recommend Anti Vir.....
.....It's free, it's not bloatware like many others and it's easy to use!

Download it at http://www.free-av.com/

I've loaded it on dozens of systems with all Windows OS's and have NEVER had it fail. Just be sure to allow it to update when it prompts you to. :) Made in Germany

9. Panda is great, I just bought their program. It gets rid of spyware too
if you have the full protection. Do they have a free program? I used to download the scan every once in a while and it would clean everything until I got a couple of Trojans which it wouldn't. When I bought it, it cleaned it.
