How Feebly Do I Cry

How feebly do I cry
against this killing of
the Spirit, for
bombing as we have done
is the destruction of our
humanity

There are no altars
to which we go to pray
that can forgive
what we have done--
for forgiveness can only
be accepted from ourselves

and that is hard to do!

I cannot celebrate the ruins
we have made, or
the lives we have
damaged or destroyed.

So, I shall not dance with
Wolfowitz in the streets of his desire--
but kneel where forgiveness may
be sought if asked for in a proper way.

Would that “hail marys” would
do it, but they won’t.

Only I can stop the pain
when I have learned to
truly cry
and hold
all Arab babies
in my arms.
