Pictures of the kitty a coworker found helpless during her lunch break
Edited on Tue May-11-04 09:18 PM by neoteric lefty

One of the girls who works in the same building brought in this tiny kitten who she said was crying outside in the parking lot. Once she found the kitten, she looked all around and couldn't find the mother, so she brought the little girl upstairs. Another girl decided to take the kitten home for a few days and help nurse it back to health. Now, I am no cat person, but I thought this little girl was adorable.

1. Ahhh!
What an adorable little baby.

Please tell you co-worker to take that little angel to vet ASAP. Looks like the little guy/girl is very young.

5. Can I give some advice
If your friend is going to keep it they need to take it to a vet and check it for respiratory problems and also to get some kitten formula. A kitten that young can not handle cows milk. It will probably need to be bottle fed for at least another month, or more. It looks like it just got it's eyes open, so it may not ween for another 3 months. If you can do that she has a chance. Just thought I would give some advice. You may have already gotten it, so if you have, forgive me.

7. Another girl went out
and got the kitten formula for the kitten. They had to kinda force it down her throat with an eye dropper (not as inhumane as it sounds).

8. Try this
Edited on Tue May-11-04 09:36 PM by texas1928
Go to any store that sells Saline contact solution and get a little bottle (and I mean the minature size bottle)of solution. You can pull the nipple out of it and rinse both things in hot water. then you can use that as a bottle. Children's baby bottles work but the kittens ussually tend to chew on the nipple. with the saline solution it is hard and they can get their normal sucking motion with the hard plastic nipple. Plus the small size you do not have to worry about over feeding.

6. What a beautiful little baby
She might have a slight eye/upper respiratory infection - she should see a vet ASAP. Her eyes look a bit glazed, but it could just be that it's because they've just opened. Cute little sweetie - thanks for showing the pictures!!:D

9. Cat flu
Tell your friend to take the tot to the vet or humane society clinic for a check up...he or she needs eye drops and anti-biotics.

They also sell kitten formula and bottles for feeding at pet stores but he/she may not be as young as she looks and they may be able to eat regular food.

When a cat cannot smell they will not eat.

I have been through this twice with feral kittens my daughter dragged in that their mothers had abandoned and have become something of an accidental authority on the topic!

Seriously...that little kitten has cat flu (per the eyes) and needs meds!

10. Get that baby to a vet ASAP
Edited on Wed May-12-04 04:41 AM by SoCalDem
Here's a tip.. Tell the vet about how you rescued it..and if your vet is anything like mine, he won't even charge much.. Kittens are very resilient, but sometimes nursing them back to health can cost a bit.. It's worth every penney.. I have done it many times..

Get some Gerber strained chicken.. That kitten may be old enough to eat solids... If they are not used to a kitten nursing bottle, you will be wasting time and money,..

Our Willie was about a half hour from dead, when I found him, and now he's pushing 20 lbs...and ornery as the devil himself...After we fed him and doctored him for 10 days, he only weighed 11 ounces..

Eye drops/ointment and nasal spray and a shot should fix that baby up..

WARNING.... If you have other cats, please invest the money and have that little one tested for the infectious (and deadly) cat diseases..

You would not want to bring something home to the resident cats :)

Good luck.. PM me anytime, if you have questions.. I bottle fed two complete litters from a few hours old, and have rescued many..

11. OMG...
what a sweetie!

I have to second the advice given above... she needs to see a vet NOW, and she needs special attention - cow's milk won't work. But whoever ends up with this doll will be enormously happy.

17. A kitten that young
may bond with someone and decide that person is "Mom." I have 3 rescued animals and one was that young. I was warned, and sure enough I'm "Mom."

It's a level of attachment I haven't seen from any of my other or previous cats.

18. Our Little Cocoa
thinks I'm her mom. We took her in last July; she was 5 weeks old and had been separated from her mama. She suckles on my ear lobe when she needs comfort, or sometimes just to go go sleep at night.

I love that kitty so much! She's very special.

20. I hope she isn't still doing that when she's full grown
That could hurt.

My little Millie still kneads me with her full claws as if she's getting ready to suckle. Any time of year I have to keep a thick quilt handy or it's her claws on my bare skin.

ouch.

But she's the lady of the house so she's allowed to draw blood. :P

22. I Don't Think Cocoa Will Ever Stop
She doesn't suckle as often as she did a few months ago, but she's almost a year old, now, and she still enjoys the ear lobe. She usually doesn't get bare skin with her claws; she likes to "comb" my hair with them.

Being owned by cats is such a joy. I wouldn't trade our furry kids for all the money in the world.
