The Doors own the majority of bands of all time. There have only been maybe 25 bands in all the world that were better than them. They had simultaneously, the wierdest lyrics ever, the best acid-trippy song ever, the best use of keyboard ever.....

The Doors' songs you must listen to if you haven't already:

1. L.A Woman
2. Roadhouse Blues
3. Love Her Madly
4. Riders on the Storm
5. Love Me Two Times
6. The End

there are soo many more...... AAAAGH

By Popular Request, and on edit: never mind, they suck....

5. Jim Morrison was an overrated hack.
Couldn't sing for shit. Couldn't write. (squirming like a toad, indeed!). Ray made that whole band. Morrison was a "poet" in the same respect that Oscar the Grouch was a great philosopher.

He sucked, and the world of music is better off without him.

Yeah. He was "cute" though. So is Justin Timberlake.

11. I live to serve.
Right Said Fred is the BOMB, though!

I'm a model, you know what I mean....

Seriously, though; Compare Jim's "lyrics" with those of Arlo Guthrie or Dylan or the Beatles.... Compare his "vocal stylings" with those of ANY Motown artist. He wrote self-serving shit, and sang shittier.

Ray Manzarek was responsible for the success of The Doors, but he wasn't "sexy" enough for the public. He wrote some good hooks, and Jim's face sold them.

18. Morrison couldn't hold a candle to Shatner
if you ask me. I hate the Doors. Calling Morrison an overrated hack is an insult to overrated hacks everywhere. I think he was a no-talent ass wipe.

I don't think he's a poet. I think he was a stoner. But I think his music was good. Maybe not philosophically good, but it sounded great. Is that too pathetic a standard for music? To sound good? It was good rock. Maybe it was trippin on acid. Maybe the lyrics didn't make sense. But it was good rock. Gimme that much.

10. Jim Morrison is THE most overrated figure in rock 'n' roll history.
I've no doubt that his "I'm such a rebel" posturing would've died with the '60s if Morrison himself hadn't. :boring:

Not insanely, but I enjoy their music to a great degree. They were certainly better than a lot of the competition. I love Jimbo's Elvis on "Touch Me" and his Dylanesque stuff on "Running Blues" (love that song). Not as pretentious as many of their peers, though still somewhat, but I think that they definitey had something going on there that was quite tasty.

Yes, Jim Morrison is idolized because he fits in nicely to that Holy Trinity of the deceased rock Pantheon: Hendrix, Lennon, Morrison. His lyrics were so-so, his singing always a little flat, but he managed to make it work. The rest of the Doors were talented. Manzarek, although my opinion of him slighted after he extolled the singing Creed frontman Scott Stapp :puke: Ray's keyboard parts were original and rough. Krieger's guitar never guitar overtook any of the other instruments, and that was a welcome relief in an age of out the ass guitar solos.

I still love the "soft parade" record......thier last I think. "Apocalypse now" wouldn't have been as good if the opening scenes were not accompanied by "the end". And another of my favorite doors songs is "the wasp(Texas radio and the big beat)". And "Shamans Blues" ain't bad either.

22. I'm not a major Doors fan -- I like 'em but one point you made
is 100% right on - no WAY "Apocalypse Now" would have been the same without "The End"!!!!

BTW, welcome to DU!
