6. I'm a rightie, but always wanted to be a leftie
All the lefties I know can draw, sing, paint, sculpt, write....

They're all incredibly talented, and unique because they make up such a small % of the population.

I've tried since childhood to 'become' left-handed, but alas, all I do is make my brain hurt and end up forgetting stuff :)

7. My stepfather was actually originally a lefty
he was a product of the old school where they would tie his left hand and force him to use his right.

He has horrible penmanship but still writes with his right hand.

31. They Did that to My Grandfather
Edited on Tue Aug-19-03 08:23 PM by Crisco
all of my 4 siblings, my mom, my dad, right-handed.

I'm the freak.

In college, a friend offered to give me guitar lessons if only I would learn right-handed. After two weeks of that, I understood what dyslexics go through. I had to look down at my hands everytime I came to an intersection, just to figure out which way to turn.

I may not be Perlman, but I'm not too shabby either! ;-)

Check out this website and the book: http://www.drawright.com/
It truly is fascinating stuff.

And if you think you aren't incredibly talented and unique, well...Bullshit! :D

24. see--I *KNEW* you were a lefty
Some people claim to have Gaydar---well in addition to having Troll-dar (leftover from my modding days...sigh), I also have Left-Dar. I can spot a leftie from a mile away.

I've amazed friends and co-workers by being able to spot left-handers without knowing ANYTHING about them. So far I've got a 99.9% success rate---the 0.1 that I'm off is from a guy, like the poster's dad above, who was a natural leftie, but was forced to learn to use his right hand.....so I was TECHNICALLY right, although he considered himself ambidexterious (I know I just butchered the spelling---I'm out of school for the summer---I should be allowed to be ignorant for the next 4 weeks :) )

9. actually, you do need another option
both my father and I are half and half. Left handed for sports and right handed for eating and writing. My dad's mom did not like lefties so he could only be a lefty when he was outside playing catch. My parents said that I could not decide which hand to pick up the fork with, so they held down my left hand. I think it is an advantage to write right handed. In sports I can go either way - I can pop up to the catcher from either side of the plate.

16. I'm left handed. With a horrible slice.
Edited on Tue Aug-19-03 05:39 PM by Richardo
But what're ya gonna do?

Right handed in:
- Guitar playing
- Scissors
- Using a Mouse

Left handed in everything else: golf, baseball, tennis, writing, watch hand, phone use, shooting (watch out for the shells ejecting into your face) walking. (Mrs. Richardo says I do exactly the opposite of what is expected when I am in a crowd trying to avoid oncoming people.)

11. Ha! And you Righties call yourselves liberals!
Only the Lefties can be TRUE liberals!!

Actually, I do **some** things "right-handed": I play guitar and golf right-handed (although when I play baseball I bat leftie). I really think those thigs are non-handed--like saying one plays piano left-handed or right-handed. You have to use both equally. If anything, I'm more adept at the left-hand fretboard fingerings because I AM left-handed, although I fingerpick the guitar (and banjo) with my right hand. It's all so confusing...

12. All left handers are generally both...most right handers are singularly
right handed. We live in a 'right handed' country....even religion used to think that being left handed was evil...and did everything they could to change the handedness of a left hander. There is even some theory that if you are left handed and your mother is also left handed...then your right/left brain functions are reversed??? Who knows?

Check out the book "The Sinister People" all about being lefthanded and the history thereof!

I am lefthanded...and my mother is also lefthanded? How can I tell if I am different from all those right handers???

Throw and write with my right. Eat with my left. And, to top it all off, I'm a goofy-foot.

29. Does ambidextrous mean....
You can use both hands equally well or you do some things lefty and some righty?
I write, eat, use scissors, sew and play tennis righty. I throw, bat, play golf and bowl lefty. I am also goofy footed. I guess my wiring is all mixed up.
