Is God Real?
There's a professor at Tulane University who says he found God, through science.

Dr. Frank Tipler is a mathematics and physcis professor at Tulane University. He's also a former atheist. He says he's come to believe in God again, through his work.

In what he calls the Cosmological Singularity Principal, Dr. Tipler outlines where the he believes the universe began, over 13 billion years ago, and where it will end, over a million million trillion years from now. He says the universe started with one point, and is slowly collapsing into the same point. The starting point, and the ending point, according to Tipler, is God.

He backs up his findings through complicated equations, and in the Bible.

He's written articles and essays on the subject, and even published a book.

1. I've read his book
"The Physics of Immortality". There's alot of good heady physics but also a lot of unsupported wishful thinking. Plus it was written before we discovered that the universe will not in fact recollapse, but rather it is expanding at an ever accelerating rate.

2. There's a number of interesting reviews of his book at Amazon.
Sounds like an expert in a field taking a stab at an *out there* theory that doesn't really stand up to inspection.

In short, their ain't no *proof* of god in his work.

3. Yes
Mystics have had personal experiences with God. Our thoughts on life are summed up in this hadith , where God says, "I was a secret treasure, who longed to be known..." The idea being that God is unity, but to experience God, God creates multiplicity, making us co-creators with free will.

4. A book that changed my life...
Many Lives, Many Masters.

"Dr. Weiss integrates concepts of traditional psychotherapy and the exploration of his patient's spiritual unconscious. My view of myself and others will never be quite the same."
-- Joel Rubinstein, M.D., former instructor of psychiatry at the Harvard Medical School now in private practice

5. Depends on what you mean by 'real' - God is very real to me, but not
to others.

Is God real in the sense that the Brooklyn Bridge is real? Or in the sense that quarks are real? Or in the sense that love is real? Or some other kind of sense of real?

To me, God is as real as the Brooklyn Bridge, yes detectable through God's effect on other things, the way quarks are only detectable by their effect on other things, and is an unreal-yet-real as an emotion.

To others, God is not real, as in doesn't exist.

To yet more, God comes in the form of Allah, or YHWH, or Jesus or any host of other name/manifestations.

And yet more believe in the concept of God as real and helpful and sufficient.
