How's this for a role model?
http://www.gay.com/news/article.html?date=2003/08/08/4&navpath=/channels/health/fitness/

Shockey caught 74 passes for 894 yards in his rookie year, becoming an immediate star. He drew attention off the field as well.

(snip)

Shockey also discusses his sexual fantasies in the upcoming issue of Maxim magazine.
During the Giants' playoff loss to San Francisco, Shockey made an obscene gesture and threw a cup of ice over his shoulder that struck some youngsters in the stands behind the Giants' bench.

He was fined $10,000 by the NFL.

The article is mostly about his use of the word "homo" and how he's been homophobic before. For some reason, I'm much more annoyed that egocentric dickless pricks can go around being such slimeballs. And $10k isn't much of a fine when his salary is at least 25 times that! (Being a star because of his record, he probably makes far more...) I mean, "youngsters" = "children". The little baby lost a widdle game so he makes a gesture (gee, a certain finger?) and then haphazardly throws things over the place, hitting children - who he probably would have been obscene to because they were probably asking for an autograph from their big social role model "hero"... x(

1. It may be just me...
But I don't think a football player should be acting like such an asshole and calling someone a "homo" if they play tight end.

2. If people want to be fans of these assholes,
I have no problem with it.

Let them self-destruct on their own.

You can't legislate out asshole-ness.

Until the sports freaks finally get it through their size IQ-65 brains that a lot of the sports "heros" they worship are abusive fucks (not all, just a lot), this is gonna continue, and it does no good for those of us who see the obvious truth to say anything about it, since the morans won't believe us,. They'll only believe after another ten thousand $100-ticket buying signature-asking people get ice dumped on them or sworn at, etc.

They're not at a point of hearing reason - we have to wait for them to be burned a few more times.

4. Wow Where did you find that jar of optimism?
"They'll only believe after another ten thousand $100-ticket buying

moof is thinking that ten thousand would line up wilingly to get that personal an experience with a sports star/drug/freak.

Not saying that all sports stars are on the steroids but the odds seem to favor it in the ones that are not able to play well with others.

You cuold be correct utterly!

Perhaps I was being far too optimistic, and failed to take into account the worshipful experience of having a cup of ice and obsenities thrown at one simply for asking for an autograph.

I hear a lot of people bitchin' about how expensive sports tickets have become, and how the players are obscenely overpaid, but I have yet to find a sports-fan type who has said that they aren't willing to continue to go to games.

I say that if you aren't willing to put action to your bitching, then stop bitching: it's obvious you don't think they're being paid too much, and it's obvious you don't think ticket prices are too high, because you keep going to games.

But it's a kind of typical republican double-speak: the type that allows one to say "I'm pro-life" while at the same time saying to "Kill all the mid-easterners, let God sort 'em out" and also that "Abortion doctors should be killed" and of course the ubiqutous "Capital Punishment is necessary and right and just, just like the old testament says".

Because in the republican/Christian-right mindset, there is no correlatin between belief/words spoken and actual actions taken on the part of the believer. So you just SAY you are pro-life; doesn't matter at all if you are killing or supporting the killing the others. it only matters what you say. Or you can say that "My life has become so much better and more focused and more ethical since becoming born again" but at the same time you can still refuse to pay your illegal workers enough to live on, or even your regular American citizen workers, and you can safely and easily ignore any environmental regulation and dump your Christian business' refuse into the river; and you can say that homosexual sex is evil and abhorrent to God but you can still be blowing your page and/or mailroom attendant and/or male secretary (all these assuming you are male) without any sense of disconnect or that one might be living a hypocrisy.

Words/vociferations and action/praxis are utterly detached.

3. Oh, yes, American football is such a heterosexual sport
Two all male teams play a game in which one team member's hands and head are dangerously close to another mans rear end. They tackle and chase after eachother, and when one scores a touchdown, a teammate often pats the scorer on the ass. Then when the game is all finished, they retreat to their locker room and shower and bathe together.

Yep, this asshole is justified in being a homophobe.:eyes:
