1. I really, really miss fried okra.
You cannot get in the stores out here, at least I haven't found any. It doesn't get hot enough or sunny enough to grow my own. Such a unique and wonderful flavor.

Woof

2. What state do you live in?
Have you checked the frozen food section?

3. you're kidding right?
You can find okra everywhere! Try the frozen section or ask around at various markets for the fresh stuff.

I live in PA and NY and can find it! mmmm...very tasty

5. I'm in WA now and moved here from Idaho.
Couldn't find it in either state, and yes I look in the frozen foods. I lived in the South and Midwest for most of my life and am quite used to getting fried okry any time I want, but not now.

4. Drop The Okra And Black-Eyed Peas
Include Buttermilk, Cornbread, home-canned Half-Runners and Fried Green Tomatoes and we'll talk about a feast.

7. Keep the fried green tomatoes...
...and dump the cornbread, okra, and black eyed peas. In their stead, substitute triple-pepperoni pizza (because pepperoni, as we all know, is God's Perfect Food).

This is spoken as a southerner who, by and large, doesn't care much for southern food. I know, heresy. :spank:

9. O.K., you heretic, what do you fry your tomatoes in?
I'm fixin to grow some zebra tomatoes, tart and green/yellow striped. Or, do they have to be Big Boys, Early Girls, in other words red tomatoes not yet ripe? Or will these green tomatoes work fine? And do you use vegetable oil or bacon grease? Do you use a egg and flour batter, or egg and cornmeal?

I really want to know how you do it. I haven't had fried green tomatoes in so long and I'm not going to wait anymore. They are a little like heaven must be, and probably as close as I'll get. I'll heat up the skillet, just give me your recipe.
