Game Cube or Playstation?

My wife desperately wants one, and I expect the kids will use it a lot, too, provided their homework is finished of course. Our selection criteria, in roughly decreasing order of importance --

* Large selection of family-friendly games - no first-person shooters, we're a peaceful bunch. (She's looking forward to playing Wallace & Gromit Goes to the Zoo...)
* Fun to play - controls that work fairly well & not a pain to work with; decent graphics & speed & stuff
* Initial cost, and typical cost of games

Since this is basically for casual use we're not too concerned if one system has, like, 5% better 3-d rendering or crap like that. We're leaning toward Playstation because our daughter the Neopets addict tells us the forthcoming Neopets game will exclusively be on Playstation, she's been told...

1. Gamecube

I would go for Gamecube. Beucase its Nintendo, you get all the mario games, which are good for kids. Mariokart is one of my favorites, also your daughter might like the finding nemo game. It's cheaper, and the controls are easier. That's just my two cents.:hi:

3. I'm so hooked on the N64 version of Mario Kart, I'm afraid to try the next

verison. I don't have an N64, but my friends do. I'll even excuse myself from the more boring parties to try beat my own times in a dark quiet room. Peach seems to be the fastest, but I could be wrong.

xbox and pc exclusive.

The XBox is the best of all three, and I have a PS2 as well for comparison.

The Gamecube is best if you have kids between the ages of 1 and 3 :P

They created a brand new game, based off a game they made years ago. This is commonly called a 'sequel'. The game is incredible, the sheer physics involved are awesome. The game is less than a year old, and as with the first, ahead of its time. The detail... *drool*

Normally I hate new video games, and can't even play them. I stick to my old consoles... but Deus Ex II made me as happy as Chrono Trigger did in the early nineties, or Clone Wars... :P

11. Sony has a new Playstation coming out in Japan fall of this year I believe

with dvd recordable shit and all.

Nintendo I'm not sure about, and I just read something about XBox 2, but the thing is, it was about 3/4 years when I first learned of the XBox and when it finally arrived in stores.

PSX : an overpriced PS2 with a built-in Hd-recorder and a DVD-recorder.




The new XBOX2 will not be around until 2005. Personally I'm, somewhat skeptical as it won't have a harddisk, nor will XBOX games run on it.

14. I chose the Gamecube

Foe these reasons:

1. Price. It was less than $100, and is even less in some places now.

2. Games are easier to play.
I'm not a die-hard player with the super-human reflexes needed to play most games nowdays.

3. Game Boy adapter.
I can play all Game Boy games, through the GameCube and on a regular TV set, not that dinky eye-straining screen of the Game Boy.

4. Controller.
Too many buttons on the other controllers.

I think it rocks...great games...more games then X-Box...I'm sticking with the PS2...

18. PlayStation 2

1) It's not that expensive. About $200.
2) All previous Playstation games will work on it.
3) The games that you buy won't be wasted, when a new version of the console comes out.
4) It plays DVDs, so you it's not just a waste of space if you don't like to play games very much.

22. I disagree

a) the Cube is cheaper
b) true, but few people want to play those (most are simply ugly by today's standards)
c) This won't be important for more than a year - and more an argument for buying a PS3 then, than for buying a PS2 now.
d) Consoles suck for playing DVDs. They are too loud; the fan noise damages the viewing experience (nor is the picture quality especially good; XBOX better than PS2)
