I did something last night that I have never done in 40 years!
I touched the belly of a pregnant woman.

One of the waitresses at work is pregnant (no, I didn't do it). I've often thought about asking her if I could touch her belly. Last night I finally worked up the courage. She said, "Sure, I love it when people touch my belly."

Wow. It was amazing. She told me that she could get the baby to kick but, since she had to pee, it probably wouldn't be a good idea.

2. Its sensational isn't it?
My experience is that most pregnant women do not have a problem with it. Many appreciate it.

You have to be polite about it of course, which I'm sure you were.

6. May I ask why?
I asked permission before hand. What reason would you have to be appalled?

7. It's perfectly normal to be impressed and fascinated by the appearance
of that amazing preggers belly.

You were kind to ask, and she was kind to accomodate.

The feeling of that life growing in that belly is amazing. It's one of my best memories, being a mom... I loved having Liv in my tummy, and it was cool when others wanted to 'pet' her.

8. I had always wondered...
And being a gay man, with only a few female friends, I never had the opportunity to ask someone with whom I felt comfortable. She said yes and I put my hand there and realized that a life was blooming in there and I was amazed.

I fail to see why someone would be appalled by that fact.

5. romanticizing motherhood
I always feel so disappointed to see women in wage-slave jobs popping out babies, as if they might still have the energy, time and funds to pull themselves and their offspring to a higher standard later. And in a world where social safety nets are being dismantled too. Yeah, good old immediate gratification. Can't tell you how many women I've met, old and worn out before their time, overworked in lousy jobs and childcare responsiblities, either no partner or the guy expects to be waited on along with the kids--pining over what they might have done with their lives if not for the kids....

Reproduction--its a biological function, and there are consequences, some not so idealistically rosy, to making the choice.

9. Hey, let's reserve parenthood only for the rich then. But when you do that

remember that Bill Clinton was raised on welfare.

My best friend is the 3rd child of Mexican born parents, here in California their adult lives.

Her Dad was a gardener for the City of Sacramento for most of his life.

Her Mom is a hairdresser who has her own very modest shop. They're not rich people, and definitely considered wage slaves, right?

Yet their daughter is a lobbyist for private colleges, who attended the BEST colleges here and paid her own way.

Her brother is a Doctor, and just got back from 6 months in south america working for Doctors without Borders.

Her other brother is an architect.

I'm GLAD those wage slaves had babies. That family is a hella lot better off than say, the wealthy elite likes of BARBARA and GEORGE BUSH, who, while wealthy, have raised only criminals, thugs, war criminals and thieves.

So there.

10. Popping out?
This is her first child. Hardly 'popping them out'.
