Weird tan lines: Have you had any? Solutions?
I was cycling today and was wearing gloves. I just looked down and my arms are a reddish brown (I was wearing sunscreen, but was out most of the day) and my hands are fairly white.

There's a fairly distinct line between the two.

It looks pretty bizarre. I think I might just skip the gloves tomorrow.

So, have you had any weird tan lines? What about sunburns? Any painful ones?

1. Golfer's tan.
I stopped wearing a golf glove just because I didn't like one tan hand and one white hand. I wear really low socks so I don't have too strange of a tan line at my ankle.

That's the extent of my strange tan lines. :silly:

2. I've had the opposite.
I wore a top with long sleeves. It was a long drive and my hands became darker than my arms. So, I used a little fake tanning lotion to make it better.

4. I used a liquid self tanner that pooled on my feet and toes in an
orange coloration. I looked like an oompha loompha.

8. I've never tried those self-tanners
I've heard they've improved quite a bit but I always was worried about dying myself a funny color.

Do you use it all over? How do you get your back? Any brands you like better?

14. Actually they are a lot better now than when I used the one that oranged
my feet. I really like Mystic Tans. In many of the tanning
shops around here they also have Mystic Tan booths.
You jump in the booth nekkid after having applied barrier cream to the palms of your hands and in between your toes etc and get sprayed with self tanner like car paint! Really works well if you use the barrier cream correctly. I love it. The newer creams work well too if you follow the instructions exactly.

The goofy tan marks from bike gloves!!! I started wearing full finger gloves for a while, but that's hot and you STILL end up with a stupid tan!!! White hands...

9. I went white water rafting several years ago.
Got sunburned on the top of my head.

When I started peeling, it sounded like I was removeing shelf-paper.

12. There's a reason I don't wear gloves.
It's not like you try to do a handstand when you fall anyway, and I think they remove entirely too much road feel. And then there's the weird tan lines they leave.

16. Sometimes the solution is worse than the problem...
Case in point:
There was a man who really took care of his body. One day he took a look in the mirror and noticed that he was tan all over except for his penis. So he decided to do something about it. He went to the beach and got completely undressed and buried himself in the sand, except for his penis, which he left sticking out.
Two old ladies were strolling along the beach, one using a cane. Upon seeing the thing sticking up out of the sand, she began to move it around with her cane, remarking to the other lady, ''There is no justice in this world.'' The other lady asked what she meant.
"Well, when I was 20, I was curious about it. When I was 30, I enjoyed it. When I was 40, I asked for it. When I was 50, I paid for it. When I was 60, I prayed for it. When I was 70, I forgot all about it. Now I'm
80 and the damn things are growing wild and I'm too old to squat!"
.

18. No; thanks; yes don't mind if I do-
in response to your response.
But I also keep in touch with DU through my husband (the abovementioned man with the penis in need of more melanin). He's got a fairly impressive post count, mine pales in comparison.

P.S. I like your cat's idea of a hammock, but I'm concerned that you're there long enough for him to get so comfortable. ;)

20. aaaaa well this is going to sound a little disjointed
moof will see that your concern is passed on to dookus.

You see, that picture was obtained in not such a nobel manner.

This image of dookus actually was the inspiration for the song
" smelly cat " and was obtained before dookus took measures to make his private time more private, well it was before the restraining order too but moof has been order... er ... asked not to mention that detail.

Not that your still reading this reply at this point but just in case your sense of whimsy is off the scale, moof was way ahead of you on that joke and was waiting for the lady to say in the punchline

" well look at that,
finally a penis without that useless piece of skin on the end of it "

19. Bad Burn

My first visit to South Padre...I have very pale skin.

Had 2nd degree burns over most of my body. My shoulders blistered so badly I couldn't move my arms for about a week. Went to the emergency room, was given some stuff to spread over my body to help the blisters drain/heal, and given hydrocordone for the pain.

To this day I can't go out in the sun without a shirt. I blister immediately.

I no longer worry about even tans. I just worry about making it through the summer alive. :-)

22. On a recent road trip
...my AC gave out, so I drove with the windows and sunroof open. I wound up with a "truckers tan"--pink left arm and right side of forehead. It was lovely.

Someone I knew once told me of getting the soles of his feet badly sunburned!

And an online acquaintance in Perth, Australia, told me of American tourists who decided to sunbathe on the beach there in very, very, very, very hot weather, fell asleep, and went home in body bags.

23. looking like a panda
One vacation of snorkeling in Hawaii in a shorty suit left me looking like a panda, legs, waist, hands, and arms dark, feet and upper chest pale, a constant source of joking from the spouse....I just wore long pants and long sleeves until winter. Now when I snorkel I wear a full length suit, not just for sun but the damn jellyfish.

24. An alternative to gloves
I'm a hard core rider. Year around; no matter what the weather. I have foam padding on the handle bars. Before that I used to get something sort of like tennis elbow from the vibrations. Though before discovering the foam. I wrapped a few layers of tape on the bars. So i don't need gloves, except for Winter cold.

The worst burn I ever had was when I first started pedalling New Zealand. The sun didn't feel that strong at first, so I pulled off my shirt. What I didn't realize was the ozone hole. Bloody 'ell was I ever seared.

25. Football tan lines
You get one tan line from the bottom of your ankle to just under your knee. You get another from the top of your wrist to the middle of your bicep. You get another around your neck, from just under the chin to where the collar of your shirt is. And of course, the front of your face gets some sun too, but not the sides, thanks to your helmet.
