Poll question: Would you go out with someone who had the same name as your ex?
That would be my luck, I'd meet a great woman and she'd have the same name as my ex...

3. Not sure.
I was married to both of my ex's for a long time; 10 years and 11 years. Their names mean them. I'd have a hard time. I suppose if I was going out with someone so incredible as to make me forget my past...it might be possible.

4. Absolutely!
OTOH, would I date a woman with the same name as my mother? Now, that would give me pause!

33. I hear you on that Sage,
But as a rule, I don't call out names at all during sex. That way I'll never yell out the wrong one.

6. I would, particularly since my ex has a very common name.
Wouldn't want to leave out that many possibilities.

7. This is spooky
I was out in the countryside today working and met and got the phone number of a woman with the same name as my ex. It has been bothering me all day. She in no way resembles the B*tch, but the name thing gives me pause.

8. Too Traumatized
I have a regular customer with the same first name, and I have to be very controlled around him...Post traumatic stress, plus the fact that I'm still dragging into court with this idiot ten years later. And then the idiot that succeeded him, ugh! There is a lot of pain in one-sided, unrequited love. Especaially when lots of time and sacrifice and children are involved.

Definately not. In fact, my ex is from Germany and I don't think I could even handle dating another German. He ruined me with that country.

23. Yes indeed.
Let's not fumble with names while we fumble with other parts.

Pretty funny though: my long-time boyfriend's ex had the same name as his mother. Mother and Son both called me "Jane". After a while, neither got embarrassed and I didn't care anyway. It was worth a grin.

17. I dated three Sarah's in a row
I was cool with it. The only problem I had was my retarded roomate tried to refer to the last one by her first and last name. He messed it up and called her by the second one's last name, then tried to correct himself and called her by the first one's last name. He got it right on the third try, but then he felt that he needed to explain that that the other two names were my former girl friends. Then she looked at me like I had a fetish for women named Sarah. (I kinda do though)

22. Yes
It never bothered me to date women with the same name. Then I married two with the same name. First wife was Jo-an (who pronounced it Joanne), still happily married to the second wife, Joanne.

H. H. claims I have "Johnny Carson Syndrome" because I only marry women named Joanne.

24. It's true.
The first Jo-an is my mom.

The second Joanne is NOT my stepmom, though. If your dad remarries when you're in your thirties, and had nothing to do with raising you, you don't have to call her your stepmom, do you?

25. Not any more...

I will no longer even go out with someone whose first name begins with the first letter of my ex's name. It's a superstition thing based on two long-term relationships after my divorce with people whose names both began with the same letter as my ex. One actually had a similar name, just a longer version of it. Both relationships ended with a disaster, one due to her drug abuse, the other because she was forced to move back to her native country.

Don't take this as advice though. Some people aren't born to have long-term romantic relationships, and it appears I'm one of them.

26. I suppose
It wouldn't be my preference though. I haven't had an "ex" per say in a long time, but in all likelihood I will again eventually in a major way and since he has what is one of the most common male names, I suppose it would be pretty easy to happen. All things being equal, it would be nice to avoid, but I've learned the hard way that human emotions often have nothing to do with convenience or practicality, so I guess I could deal with it if it came down to it.
However, one name I loath is "Rick" or "Rich". I went out with one in my younger years and have known many and they're all creeps. Perhaps it's not nice to have a bias toward a name, but I do with that one.

30. Sure.
Then again, with some of the people I've dated, for someone else to have their exact name (or even the same first OR last name) would be probability approaching zero (rare names!).
