What if you don't care one way or another?

1. you are not alone!
thank you for sharing--here I thought I was the only person on earth who doesn't care about Friends, have never watched it and never intend to.

2. Count another
non watcher of Friends here. It's just a TV show. I think perhaps all the hype is another example of how so many people can't distinguish between reality and fantasy.

5. My sister is acting the same way
I watch it once in a while though I usually have better things to do. It's not the worst show ever, but it's not that great either.

4. I never saw the show until it got into re-runs.
And I've never been able to watch it for more than a few minutes without feeling the need to channel surf.

7. I'm right there with you...
Saw it one or two times...typical sitcom shtick...

It's just the way of the media gobbling up as as many brain cells on the sheeple as possible....helps keep them from thinking of useless information like Iraq.

12. How is it that occasionally unemployed people can afford an apartment...
in Manhattan?

I swear, "Friends" sometimes went into the realm of fantasy. That, and not acknowledging the existance of minorities in a city of 7 million people.

14. When I saw it I was living in MAnhattan paying $1400 a month for 1 room
I developed an instant HATRED for the show. It was and is insulting.

11. Preach on!
Of course, this means I lose the 30 minutes of personal time I got on Thursday night while my wife watched. :)

13. "Friends" had a few good episodes...
The one where Ross did his "Onagi" thing was funny, but as a series, it really didn't seem that outstanding.

15. I have watched the show
and it's okay, nothing special. But the hype is really pissing me off. They pre-empted the West Wing (a show that has jumped the shark, yes, but is still better than most everything else on TV) for a stupid special on the show. Ugh.

16. Here's what I don't understand...
What is the big deal about the Friends series finale? They all come to an end sooner or later. I don't see anybody whining because the Golden Girls isn't still on. (Although I do on occasion because I love that show!) Something else will come along and take its place and those same people will be content to watch the reruns.

17. I'm filled with a profound sense of loss
It's going to be so hard to say goodbye to them. They entered my life a long time ago, and I feel like I've come of age with them. There was the time that Chandler made that sarcastic remark. And that time Joey said something stupid, and Ross something neurotic. And Phoebe did something weird, and Monica something anal, and of course Rachel something naive. Ah, what depth, what layers, what profound writing. Why, just last night one of the fine, multi-faceted characters said the word "balls" to the delight of both me AND the entire studio audience. Where can you find smart, sharp writing like that except on this show?

Fare thee well, dear Friends. Fare thee well. My heart shall ache as future Thursday evenings will be empty and meaningless.

Fare thee well.

21. My my, felonious thunk, you turned on the sarcasm machine to "high"
I'm still laughing over your post.

Thank you for distilling the joy, the laughter and yes, the tears that this cultural touchstone "Friends" is all about.

Terry

23. Thank you Terry
As I watch tonight with bittersweet feelings of longing and appreciation, in between wiping away my tears with my licensed Friends™ hanky, I'll make a toast to you, and all our Friends™ as I swill a plastic glass of Sutter Home White Zinfandel.

22. The only thing I ever laughed at about Friends...
Was a commercial they had where two of the characters were hanging from a ladder (one was holding the ladder and the other was hanging onto his pants) and was trying to get him to let go. He said he wasn't going to let go and the other guy said that his pants were coming off and that he wasn't wearing underwear. I don't know why it struck me as funny, though.

24. There's a certain segment of the population
(a distressingly large segment) that is still in high school emotionally. They're not sure what they should care about unless the media tell them that it's cool to care about this or that.
