So I'm making my first quilt.

Square patches, pretty simple. But what a HUGE job it is. Oy vey.

(I'm making it for Mr. Sophree- "Oh, can you make it 2 squares wider? Oh, you can just make the border out of these little fabric strips. etc.)

Any quilters out there have any helpful tips?

I've only quilted Christmas stockings and a tree skirt. My sister does outstanding work...

I have trouble keeping my stitches neat, small and even, as well as doing them right so the back doesn't look a mess.

Do you have a rack? They do help a whole lot as does a really good sewing maching for certain pieces.

But, once you start, it's pretty addicting, I think.

But again, good luck with it and don't get discouraged. Likely you already have a good quilting book, but if not, that is handy.

I suppose I can use a towel rack?

I don't have a quilting book. Everything I know about quilting (which is not very much) I've learned second hand from a friend who's made only a couple quilts herself. A book is a good idea, thanks.
