Disney Ride Has Sent 6 To Hospital In Last 8 Months
<snip>

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- One of the rides at Walt Disney World is apparently a little too much for some of the older people willing to get on board.

Six people over the age of 55 have been taken to a hospital for chest pain and nausea after going the ride called "Mission: Space."

It is the most hospital visits for a single ride since Florida's major theme parks agreed in 2001 to report any serious injuries to the state.

The only other ride that approaches that number was Universal Orlando's "Ripsaw Falls," which had three reported injuries in 2002.

"Six idiots sent to hospital in last eight months after failing to heed warnings posted at Disney World ride."

3. I went on that ride...
... back in the days when I didn't hate Disney. The simulated G-force during the rocket take-off was pretty wild! I can understand why it might harm some of our more frail citizens.

5. Was the g-force stronger than that on the Aerosmith roller coaster?
That was some quick start pneumatic launching thingie.

7. I don't know if it was stronger...
... but it certainly lasted longer. I'd say it lasted about 15-20 seconds. Breathing was noticeably uncomfortable... almost like a forced effort. DAMNED GOOD RIDE!!!

4. Posted warnings
"If you are over 50 years of age, heart problems, blah blah blah...."

Apparently they need glasses and/or remedial reading courses as well.

6. I have been on that ride also
There are plenty of warnings. I had no trouble on the ride itself but was a little dizzy for a couple of hours after the ride. The ride has been toned down to decrease the G forces on takeoff. I have heard of people throwing up outside the ride.

8. I thought you were gonna say "It's a Small World"
I'd have to be hospitalized for insanity if I had to go through that...

10. just last weekend
a 55 year old man was killed when he was thrown from the Superman Man of Steel ride at our local Six Flags. I think the technology to scare the crap out of you hasn't kept up with the technology to keep you safe.

11. My mate-to-be took about 18 photographs on that ride.
I think he may have been possessed at the time. I thought I was in hell and maybe that's what hell is really like. I remember rethinking the direction our relationship was headed, all while closing my eyes and trying to meditate my way out of the situation.

He recovered. I still have flashbacks. I'm so sorry for your trauma.

13. The same thing happened to me.
It is rather traumatizing. I still can't hear that song, and had to take the batteries out of a baby toy that played that toon.

I hear that ride is closed now for refurbishing.
