Hey, I was in a sorority and we did some mild hazing during pledging.

So I'm listening to OxyRush's comments about why it's ok for us to haze those Iraqi POWs. (PS - listening to the comments via Franken's Radio show)

Oxyrush says what we did at that prison was ok because:

  1. It's not much different that what was done during Skull & Bones hazing initation (or other greeks like my sorority Kappa Lambda Nu).
  2. Our soldiers need something to release the stress. So I guess I could go beat up my cubicle neighbor and say it's ok because Rush says so
  3. Our soldiers are being shot at everyday so they should beat up and humiliate some Iraqi's

Someone PLEASE give Limberger some Oxycontin because obviously his brain is shortcircuiting!!!

There is no excuse - Rush should not slide because he's Rush!!

1. One way to relieve the stress is to bring the troops home.
But, that's just me. I'm not some blowhard gas bag with a syndicated radio show.

2. What it actually shows is why our colleges are releasing psychopaths
who then go to work for companies like Enron et al.

4. Actually most College Campuses are cracking down on hazing
The things we did in the mid 80's we could never get away with today.

3. Iraqi soldiers are being shot at daily, and under stress too
Is Rush saying it's now ok for them to do these tings to US?

IIRC, our POW's have all been saying they were treated very well

8. Third rethug reference to 'hazing' in 24 hours.
Edited on Wed May-05-04 12:43 PM by Maine-i-acs
Hannity said it, Rush said it, and the third escapes me.

Are they all being faxed their talking points again? Sickening.

I have never heard of hazing like this. And a crappy attempt at minimizing the severity of what happened to those men and women in there. Iraqis deserve better.

9. submitting to hazing is a choice
If you want to be in the 'group', you go through the hazing.

These detainees and prisoners didn't submit to this torture willingly-they had guns pointed at them, and apparently by crazy people.

Another difference they don't want to acknowledge. Can you even imagine what they would be saying if this story was in the reverse. They would be demanding we nuke Baghdad by now. They certainly wouldn't be saying "this is no worse than typical hazing."

What a complete and utter asshole. I can't believe people don't see him for what he is. Just amazing.

13. The worst was Rush saying that it's wrong to ruin the lives...
...of those US Soldiers who did this "hazing"

You know, if any of those soldiers had an inkling of a conscious they would have refused to do it EVEN if a superior officer had told them to do so.
