Woman Gives Birth For The First Time - At Age 62

A 62-year-old Indian woman has given birth to a baby boy through a donor egg, becoming one of the world's oldest first-time mothers, a report said today.

"To have my own baby in my hand is the cherished moment in my life," retired schoolteacher Bhavani Amma, who had long wanted a child, told the Press Trust of India.

Ms Amma gave birth to the 1.35 kg baby by Caesarean section on April 12 at the Samad hospital in Trivandrum, capital of Kerala state on India's southern tip, the news agency said.

Doctor Sathy Pillai said an egg had been donated and fertilised before being implanted into Ms Amma, who was past the menopause.

The world's oldest woman to give birth is believed to be a 65-year-old Indian, in April 2003.

Menopause happens for a reason. I think in my 60's, I'll be content with grandmahood. Personally, I wouldn't want to breed much past 40. :shrug:
