Fake bullet holes on Hummers? New fad?
Edited on Tue May-04-04 12:38 PM by darkstar
Granted, having only seen one example, I can't call it a "fad," but was wondering if anyone else had seen this?

Never seen it on *any* car before yesterday. Huge, shiney, perfectly tricked out Hummer parked next to me coming out of grocery. Had three bullet hole stickers on front windsheild that, from a distance, looked real.

WTF? Is this a trend? A "my armoured vehicle is tough" fantasy/statement? Some twisted way of saying "we support our troops"?

Disturbing.

1. I would guess that drivers of such vehicles
also have many pictures of their little weenies wth hollywood starley photoshopped in.

So the fantasy life of the idiot American continues.

2. I've seen those stickers on lots of cars and trucks
I saw them for sale at the last county fair. They do look real from a distance.

3. I've seen those too
On an SUV here in Dallas.

Stupidity runs rampant - what more can be said?

4. It would seem to be poking fun at the troops.

Lack of armor for the HUMVs was all over the news last week. So this would appear to be someone laughing at the troubles our soldiers and Marines are suffering in Iraq.

6. Exactly,
Because if not poking fun, then extremely poor taste via inability to put two thoughts together in a coherent way. That is, if it is intended as some sort of "pro troop, all of America is militarizing" thing, it is ultimately exceedingly disrespectful. As opposed to "look: my new 70k car is f-ed up; just my luck," or the equivalent of fake bird crap, etc. But it's hard for me to even give that a pass in light of the current you point out, ieoeja.

7. These stickers have been around for a few years. Might just be noticing...
... them in light of events.

I think it's just a "street" thing considered to be cool. Kind of like 50-Cent wearing a bullet-proof vest.

8. I've seen those on hopped-up
four-bangers before. You know, because it's cool to be a criminal and to live in a place where gunshots happen regularly, especially when you are a little suburban kid whose greatest crime is smoking crappy brown dope.

However, to put them on the civilian version of the Hummer is to me distasteful. What's next, walking around with fake wounds?

9. Gangs and Hicks love em!
Near as I can tell, coming from Tennessee and moving to Oakland California, gangbangers and hillbillies love those stickers. Maybe there is hope for the nation yet when Oakland's toughest thugs and the guy who brought you the Klan can find such agreement.

Now though, and especially on a Hummer, they would be in bad taste. Of course the Hummer is in bad taste to begin with, so slap some bullet holes and a rebel flag on it and go crazy.

10. I think we oughta help 'em along
if they want bullet holes, hell, I could oblige and give 'em some REAL ones. How about a couple nice rounds of buckshot?
