AUSTIN, Texas -- Partygoers apparently hoping to catch a glimpse of nude sunbathers crowded on one side of a floating barge, prompting the ship to capsize and dump all 60 people into Lake Travis.

Two people were hospitalized with minor injuries Sunday after the rented double-decker barge sank near Hippie Hollow, a lakeside park and the only public nude beach in Texas.

The accident occurred during Splash Day, a semiannual event hosted at the clothing-optional area by the Austin Tavern Guild, a gay and lesbian bar association.

7. I'm glad I avoided a similar fate

While cruising New York Harbor on July 4, 2002 with a boatload of Pakistani physicians and their families, I feared our boat would capsize when the fireworks were going off and EVERYONE on the boat rushed to the shore side to get a better view. The boat leaned precipitously to the left, and I was afraid the stupid people would tip it over (stupid because of what they were doing, NOT because they're Pakistani!). Of course, I was in the bathroom when this started, and I felt the boat leaning and had to arrange myself and get out of there!!

I remember years ago watching MTV's the real world, and these two girls on there went to a nude beach. They were shocked that the people there were real, and not from a vic tanny ad.


why do people assume that only the in shape, good lookin folks would want to be naked? what's worse than a fat guy in a speedo? a fat guy without his speedo!!

I frequent Wreck Beach, a nude beach in Vancouver.

It routinely gets buzzed by tourist helicopters. We just smile and wave. I just worry that one of the pilots will get distracted.

Its a pretty cool place, but its lurker central. I worked there for over two years and saw some pretty wild stuff. Other than the lurkers, its a pretty nice park with some nice (and naked) patrons.
