26. I've heard that effect is REALLY bad
Looks like it's walking downtown, then it collapses. That'll be worth tuning in for five minutes.

14. Where in LA, Piperay?
I'm in Hollywood.

I have very very vivid memories of the Northridge earthquake in 1994. (That was a 6.7, if I remember correctly.) I was only ten, but the destruction that it caused in my neighborhood made a profound impression on me.

I really hope they're wrong about that 6.2 in Sept.

5. I may watch it.
This was posted on IMDB:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0364146/

Summary: Funny, if you like bad disaster movies

They had a preview screening of this for my office. I work with a bunch of seismologists, and the overall consensus was that when it came to the science, they got *everything* wrong. The room was full of people laughing uproariously at one howler after another. The special effects were pretty good, but the acting was kind of hard to take. Too melodramatic. And not just the science was wrong. The bit that kind of summed it up was a scene where a TV news report was showing a banner that the President had declared 'marshal law'. Don't the writers have a dictionary? Anyway, if you like bad disaster movies, this is entertaining. But it's pure fantasy, and not at all an accurate portrayal.

18. here's an article from CNN
http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/TV/04/12/quake.miniseries.ap/index.html

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- An upcoming TV miniseries about an impossibly large earthquake that strikes the West Coast has left seismic experts shaking their heads at what they called gross inaccuracies......Seismologists who have previewed "10.5" expressed both alarm and mirth. A magnitude-10.5 earthquake would be 8,000 times more powerful than the 6.7 Northridge quake that killed 72 people in Southern California in 1994.

31. Been watching it. Off to bed now. Typical.
Really Concerned Good Looking People, and others who Just Won't Listen. Typical sidebars; young woman who is assistant to California governor (a woman!) gets desperate calls from her husband (hilarious); black doctor with young family is told He Just Doesn't Understand by his wife (Will Smith did it better, see Independence Day and An Enemy of the State); young hottie scientist in tight shirt figures it out, but is dismissed (name your movie; too many to list). How creative.
