I can't find a decent townhouse 30 miles out of Washington, D.C. to save my neck! I put a contract on one last night and the realtor called to tell me they want money over and above the value of the house!
We aren't talking about a honey house here. We're talking about a little town home built in 1976 on a postage stamp tract of land that needs a new roof.
They want money over and above what I'm able to finance! Go figure?
Prices go up religiously every year. The wife and I had come to within 2 years of buying our own house, and were pretty excited about being "only" a couple of years away. I got laid off a month later and took a few years' worth of steps back.
Little wonder why more and more apartments are being built. Apartment rent is ~1/3 of a mortgage payment.
