Poll question: Do You Sunburn Easily?
I do. And how!

And I keep forgetting that I don't have enough hair to keep from getting my scalp burned too.

6. SPF-17,400, anyone?
In my stupid and oblivious youth, I once laid out for hours sans protection. I wound up with, among other nasty symptoms and skin lesions, blisters half an inch tall and bigger than quarters on my chest. I have a scar from heart surgery -- these blisters altered its shape in some spots.

If you're a fair European type, NEVER EVER go out without sunscreen.

9. I am a Woman of Pallor
I have a complexion suited to life in the shadows of the Carpathian Mountains, and yet I lived in FL for almost 20 years, without getting sunburned -- because I was a "liberal" about sun protection.

But I attended the Kerry Rally in Pittsburgh last week and whoo-hooo! I could have appeared on the cover of a Burpee tomato catalogue.

It's usually so gloomy in Western PA that one worries more about rickets and other Vitamin D deficiency diseases, and can forget that the sun here -- although rare, can burn as well. Hard to imagine that friggin' Pittsburgh is on the same latitude as North Africa!

and I don't lay out.

I used to get sunburned as a teen, but I always put on a shirt or other cover up to avoid getting too much sun. I also avoid the sun during mid day.

24. Nope. I'm blessed with tanning skin.
Edited on Fri Apr-30-04 12:36 AM by TahitiNut
Dermatologists have told me (often with envy) I'm very lucky, particularly for a blond. Some summers, when I'm free to engage in the outdoor activities I adore, my skin gets darker than even that of my Tahitian acquaintances but my hair lightens to surfer blond. The funny thing is that I also seem to get a Vitamin D 'high' as well ... and I've never felt better in my life. (I love summer.) The rest of the time, I'm Moby Dick.

During my best summer, I was able to tube the Salt River (outside Phoenix) for 5-6 hours (9:30am to past 3pm) on the Fourth of July with only a tad of lotion on my nose and eartops. I just soaked up that sun - couldn't get enough. (It's really quite wonderful.)

So, come summer, I slather on the sun block, wear hats, head for the shade, or just don't go outside until 4:00 p.m. or later.

I've already had three skin cancers romoved from my face, and I'm not eager to have more --

I'm one pale person. I can get a little tan if I'm very slow and careful with the sunscreen, but I don't really try to do so. I'm been wearing sunscreen on my face every day for the past ten years and so far, it's working. :D

I haven't had a tan since I was a teenager, before I got sun poisoning. Ever since that incident, I can't tolerate any sun beyond a few minutes here or there, without SPF 30 and a hat.

I can stay in the sun as long as I like and never burn. I attribute it to my American Indian heritage. My great grandfather was a Blackfoot.

and ever since then, I get this horrible blotchy burn if I expose my legs to the tiniest bit of sun. My arms and face will burn, but it'll turn to tan.

45. Red-headed milk-skinned Irishwoman
what do YOU think? I freckle in about 30 seconds and burn a few minutes after.

I am unusual for a redhead in that I will eventually tan a light golden color if I'm VERY cautious about how I do it. The only time I've really had a tan was when I was bodybuilding (I had to have one then). I've never had the patience to bother with one any other time. Besides, this is the Pacific Northwest - we don't tan here, we rust.
